Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
You'll be at the heart of supporting the delivery of our broadcast and communication services, ensuring that our studio and web-based operations run seamlessly without disruption to broadcasts. Working alongside seasoned broadcast professionals, you'll develop a deep understanding of the technical and operational aspects of this fast-paced industry.
Your day-to-day responsibilities may include:
- Utilising industry-specific software tools and broadcast equipment to manage media and file assets, ensuring the integrity and security of content
- Preparing the technical assembly and set-up for broadcast and communications, including adding subtitles or audio descriptions, and assessing and manipulating audio and video contributions
- Monitoring and maintaining consistent transmission and broadcast in line with service-level agreements and organisational targets
- Identifying and troubleshooting technical faults, escalating issues to the appropriate personnel as required
- Communicating effectively with colleagues, customers, and suppliers to facilitate the smooth delivery of broadcast services
- Ensuring a safe and secure working environment, adhering to all health and safety guidelines and reporting any incidents or hazards
- Continuously developing your professional competence in broadcast and media systems operations, embracing a willingness to learn new skills
Please note: This role is primarily a support/administration/assistant role. You will not be involved directly in creating content for production.
As a Production Assistant Apprentice, you'll have the opportunity to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, gaining exposure to the full end-to-end broadcast workflow, from production to distribution. You'll develop a strong understanding of the regulatory environment, industry standards, and the resources required to deliver exceptional broadcast services.

You will gain a vast range of useful experiences and skills whilst working towards the level 3 apprenticeship, Production assistant - screen and audio. As a working student your focus is to complete your studies in your 20% off the job time by learning and developing your skills, knowledge and behaviours to work towards successful graduation. You will be set objectives and goals by your training provider and manager to support your studies.
You will build your skills over a 18-month period, starting in July. These skills will help you develop personally and professionally. Your apprenticeship will be made up of classroom/virtual based training to cover knowledge, on-the-job training at your Amazon base location, online learning as well as mentoring from our experienced team members.

- Interpret a production brief and identify the audience/end user requirements for the production.
- Scope and evaluate ideas and problem solving concepts for a production.
- Develop creative ideas and proposals for screen, online or audio productions.
- Create a brief for a production, including documents such as a storyboard or treatment or outline script of ideas.
- Present persuasive pitches, ideas and proposals for screen, online or audio productions.
- Work in line with agreed workflows, adapting to operational and creative changes as they occur and inform relevant stakeholders.
- Support the end-to-end process of production by monitoring budgets, resources and progress and adhering to legislation, regulations, organisational processes and procedures.
- Identify and minimise hazards and risks in the workplace such as Covid compliance.
- Assist cast and crew members and act as a point of contact with the production office and other departments.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships when in production, establishing and using professional networks.
- Provide progress reports to your production coordinator or producer.
- Create, use and store production documentation throughout the end-to-end production workflow.
- Manage and store media assets, creating accurate records of material produced in line with workflows and organisational policies.
- Complete a call sheet/schedule prior to a shoot.
- Scope resource requirements; identify and prevent potential supply problems.
- Identify and assist with sourcing resources for a production, including locations, catering, accommodation, transport, equipment, crew, budget and existing media assets.
- Identify opportunities to deliver sustainable solutions in line with industry standard recommendations.
- Select microphones taking into account conditions and environments.
- Select and set up camera equipment as required.
- Monitor the sound levels and bit rate, identifying any issues during the capturing process.
- Work to a visual technical specification such as resolution, frame rate, pixellation.
- Operate current industry standard equipment and software safely during and post recording.
- Edit and optimise audio or visual material saving in the required format.
- Compress digital assets.
- Select edit points to create a smooth transition in the material and achieve required audio effects using sound and acoustic effects as required.
- Review edited material to ensure appropriateness for the target audience, house style and platform.
- Gather audience data to evaluate the impact and success of a production against its objectives.
- Use lessons learned to evaluate the success of the production and identify areas for improvement for future productions.
- Use continuing professional development planning to support own current and future training and development needs.

More training information
- As well as learning key skills, you will be working towards the Level 3 Production assistant Apprenticeship qualification
Training will be delivered in a mix of remote and face-to-face sessions. - Each week Apprentices will be allocated time away from their day to day roles to work on their Apprenticeship studies.
- You will spend approximately 80% of your working week learning from skilled members of the team whilst supporting learning on the job.
- The apprenticeship will run for 18 months, at the end of which you will be eligible to apply for higher roles in relevant teams within Amazon or anywhere in the industry.
- This is the ideal opportunity to get valuable work-experience at Amazon, as well as gaining a relevant qualification funded by Amazon.
- Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)

GCSE in:

This position will be based in a Corporate Office. We advise you to submit your application as soon as possible, as the roles will close once filled. We will be holding online assessments from November through to February, with assessment centres taking place between February and May.
