Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
Work activities will include but are not limited to:
- Stock management; check for missing/damaged items, store and pick & pack goods.
- Maintain stock records and documentation.
- Taking customer orders either over the counter or the phone.
- Gain a good knowledge of parts sold to advise customers day to day.
- Deal with internal & external queries in a timely manner.
Keep all filing up to date. - Use internal computer systems to track stock, record transactions and aid your customer communications.
- Liaise with other branches by telephone, email and other communication methods re stock, deliveries and customer enquiries.
- Be prepared to vary your working day, if it is quiet on the counter, you may be required to work in the stock room, auditing or ensuring that stock levels are as they should be.
- Getting to know your customers and your products. The best way to ensure repeat business is to deliver exceptional customer service at all times.
- Learn to understand visual merchandising and how this can impact sales.
- Learn about upselling and linked sales (if you buy this, you might need this).

- Serve customers in line with brand standards, legislation, business procedures and the values of the business.
- Provide a retail service that balances the customers’ needs with additional linked products and services.
- Use face to face or online sales techniques such as product and price comparisons to support or influence the customer in their purchasing decisions.
- Promote seasonal or local offers through in-store or online promotions.
- Identify situations that may damage business reputation in line with company policy and escalate as required.
- Maintain good merchandising to meet the needs of the business whilst ensuring safety.
- Maintain stock levels and storage conditions such as correct temperature, lighting, ventilation, packaging to meet customer demand and minimise stock loss.
- Use technology and applications to support sales and service ensuring that maintenance issues are reported.
- Support team and colleague development through buddying and/or coaching.
- Comply with regulations and legislation relevant to their role and business.
- Contribute to continuous improvement activities which focus on improving sustainability within the business.
- Handle complaints within remit or escalate as appropriate.
- Support sales across a range of promotional events throughout the calendar year.

Your training plan
- This is predominantly a work based programme which means that your learning will take place on the site of your employment and within your contracted working hours.
- We host supporting workshops regularly throughout the apprenticeship which you will attend in person at our Derby Road campus. Monthly tutorials are held via Microsoft Teams.
- You will work with expert assessors to develop new knowledge, skills and behaviours within the profession.
- You will experience a blended learning model.
- You will gather learning evidence, journals and off-the-job records using your e-portfolio.
- At the end of the planned learning period, it will be agreed that you are ready to enter 'Gateway' and for your End Point Assessment to be arranged.
