Summary

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
The Apprentice Payroll / HR Administrator will be working towards achieving the following through an appointed apprenticeship training course and on the job training (duration 18-24 months).
- Responsible for the accurate delivery of monthly computerised payrolls for Clarke Chapman and sister companies within the Langley Group as directed by line management
- Organise the administration of all payrolls as efficiently as possible to meet deadline dates
- Input information to each payroll for deductions and payments received from: HMRC, DWP, Company Pension Scheme, voluntary organisations
- Responsible for producing monthly payment schedules and ensure payments are made accordingly
- Keep up-to-date with legislation affecting payroll processing and ensure company is adhering to this as well as training other members of the department as necessary
- Calculate on a weekly basis holiday average pay for Rail contract in accordance with WTD
- Ensure payroll is processed through the BACS for payment to employees on scheduled payment dates
- Keep up to date manual records for hourly paid employees, to include holidays, sickness and absence monitoring
- Deal with any queries made from Supervisors / Managers regarding employees pay
- Responsible for the completion all year end procedures connected with running the payroll including P60’s, completion of P11D’s ensuring Company meets required deadlines
- Responsible for the maintenance and update of the department’s files including manual and computerised
- Update Time and Attendance system as instructed by supervision
- Provide a broad range of administration duties as directed by HR Manager including the co-ordination of new starters and leavers information
- Provide statistical employee information as required, such as salary analysis / comparisons, age analysis, discipline split for both internal and external use (i.e. tenders / bids)
- Deputize for the HR Manager as directed
- Attend first stage disciplinary / grievance meetings with operational management providing HR support as necessary
- Flexibility to undertake any other duties which may be necessary to support the Payroll function, Human Resources Department and Finance Department as and when necessary

Clarke Chapman has been producing heavy engineering equipment in the northeast of England since 1864. During the 1990’s, under the ownership of Rolls-Royce, Clarke Chapman incorporated the companies Wellman Booth, Stothert & Pitt and Cowans Sheldon to become Rolls-Royce Materials Handling.
