Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

This list is not considered to be exhaustive, but to provide an illustrative representation of the nature of the duties that the Apprentice will be involved in and the experience/ development that will be gained.

  • Purchase Ledger - Post supplier invoices to Sage50, reconcile supplier statements and request copy invoices and credit notes. Raise weekly/monthly payments in a timely manner.
  • Sales Ledger- Invoice clients from data supplied.
  • Credit Control - Take a proactive role in maintaining the debtor's ledger, collecting overdue debt by telephone and email. Develop relationships with clients.
  • Weekly Bookwork - Collate, check, file & chase up any missing book work.
  • Analysing Data on SageSO & Excel
  • Reconciliation - Bank and Credit Card Accounts.
  • Month End Checks I preparation for running monthly accounts.
  • General Administration - General accounts tasks, various admin duties including but not limited to answering the phone, monitoring incoming emails, filing and more.

Course contents
  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

    GCSE in:
