Summary

This is an important role which ensures that furniture is delivered safely and installed as per the client’s requirements while maintaining a safe, tidy and well-organised warehouse. The successful candidate to be physically fit and would suit someone who completes regular exercise. The lifting of furniture and goods is a physically demanding job.

Monday - Friday, between 9.00am to 5.00pm. Flexibility is crucial as early starts and occasional late finishes are required. Overtime will be paid at the standard rate of pay.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Coordinate tasks and workload for all deliveries and collections
  • Report any issues or problems to the Senior Warehouse Operative
  • Prepare and check outbound customer orders
  • Check out all stock items using the handheld device (following training)
  • Complete delivery/collection paperwork to a consistently high standard and handle stock with the utmost care at all times
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment
  • General warehouse housekeeping and waste management

  • Conduct risk assessments within the working environment.
  • Apply safe working practices in line with associated health and safety legislation and company policy.
  • Receive products in line with organisational procedures.
  • Store and pick products in line with organisational procedures.
  • Dispatch products in line with organisational procedures.
  • Decant, pack products in line with organisational procedures.
  • Communicate with others verbally, for example internal and external customers, colleagues, and managers.
  • Communicate in writing with others, for example internal and external customers, colleagues and managers.
  • Load and unload products, considering the product that is to be moved and its current and planned destination.
  • Use tools and equipment to aid in product handling.
  • Use information technology and digital systems. Comply with GDPR and cyber security.
  • Locate and use operational information, electronic or paper based, required to fulfil contractual requirements.
  • Select, prepare, and use packaging materials that reduce waste and mitigate environmental impacts.
  • support under instruction scheduled and unscheduled stock taking activities relevant to the organisation and product.
  • Identify and escalate problems beyond own responsibility.
  • Follow procedures in line with environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and guidance. Segregate resources for reuse, recycling and disposal.
  • Follow equity, diversity and inclusion rules.
  • Carry out and record learning and development activities.
  • Conducts handover activities.
  • Your training plan

    • You will be trained in Supply Chain Operator Level 2 Standard with in-house training to be delivered at work, including safe use of equipment and machinery
    • Functional Skills in maths and English, if required 
    • How to use warehouse systems and processes relating to packaging, moving and receiving stock
    • Safely and efficiently load and unload items

    GCSE or equivalent in:

    • English (grade 3)
    • Maths (grade 3)
