Summary

LME Group is offering a two-year apprenticeship which aims to provide a comprehensive program for the incumbent to develop skills for a future role in global financial/ commodity markets.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Assist in the daily reporting and monitoring of the LME metals and Collateral markets and measuring the risk exposure of member and counterparty portfolios. To aid the wider team in improvements to daily processes
  • Proactively identify, report and ensure transparency of risks, immediate escalation of material issues to line/ senior management.
  • Support team members and develop the skills to aid with automation of risk reporting and analysis
  • Review documentation of risk methodologies and provide comment on accuracy document versus daily practices
  • Monitor member cleared exposures and requirements & investment counterpart exposures versus limits and policy – escalate where appropriate.
  • Monitor external/ macro market risks and potential impact to the collateral, liquidity and investment limit frameworks and policies.
  • Monitor metals market risks and potential impact to margin parameters and members’ exposures
  • Preparation of daily, monthly and all committee reports – implement improvements and automation where possible.
  • Assist with documentation of risk reporting procedures and ensure in line with models and methodology documentation.
  • Assist with reporting development needs and enhance within model implementation process.
  • Help to ensure default management capabilities are sufficient to manage a default in line with LME Clear regulations.
  • Develop the role and own capabilities and complete the CISI qualification.

Course contents
  • Maintains a consistently high standard of service internally, towards clients and with intermediaries. Adheres to well defined timeframes, systems and processes. Consistently attentive to accuracy, detail and timeliness; meets required risk, regulatory and governance requirements. Performs tasks which may be complex, specialised, or non-routine, such as bespoke (OTC) derivative settlement and margin calculations, monitoring and processing these complex transactions through to completion; Preparing management, investment performance or review reports for internal and external clients.
  • Adopts high quality written and verbal communication skills as appropriate for communicating with internal and external clients. . Builds positive relationships with clients and colleagues using sound interpersonal and influencing skills. Able to coach/train less experienced colleagues. Able to communicate and negotiate complex situations and issues that may arise.
  • Consistently supports colleagues and the wider business, collaborating to achieve results. Aware of their role within team, how their team fits within the business and how the team’s decisions impacts on others. Takes a leadership role in the team when appropriate. Operates well under time pressure.
  • Takes ownership for delivery in their area of responsibility, both for the core role and for developing and implementing changes. Able to exercise autonomy and judgement within fairly broad parameters. Finds effective ways to resolve issues. Escalates decisions and issues when necessary. Capable of resolving complex issues that may involve other business areas.
  • Proactively plans and records their own development; seeks constructive feedback and incorporates within development plan; keeps up to date with changes in all areas of the role; shows commitment to the job and the industry.

    Essential qualifications

    GCSE in:

    • GCSE's including English and Maths (grade (A*-C/9-4 or equivalent))
