Summary
We are looking for an apprentice to join us at our busy nursery. We are a happy team of Early Years professionals who are passionate about providing excellent childcare, in a home from home environment. We promote outdoor learning, so a love of nature and a pair of wellies are essential!

£8.60 - £11 per hour depending on age/experience. Starting pay is higher than apprentice rate, and will increase dependent on achievement, work ethic etc.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
Main responsibilities:
- To deliver a high standard of learning, development and care for children aged 0-5yrs
- To ensure that the nursery is a safe environment for children, staff and others
- To develop partnership with parents/carers to increase involvement in their child’s development
- To be responsible for any tasks delegated by the deputy Manager/Nursery Manager
- To complete all academic aspects of the apprenticeship
Main duties/daily tasks:
- To provide a safe, caring, stimulating educational environment, both indoors and outdoors, at all times
- To assist with meeting the personal, social and emotional needs of individual children
- To provide adult interaction with children in the nursery
- Contribute to ideas regarding implementation of policies and procedures such as Early Years Foundation Stage
- To plan activities which ensure each child is working towards the early learning outcomes
- Under supervision provide all aspects of care for children including washing, changing, and feeding
- Contribute to good standards of hygiene and cleanliness in the nursery
- To respect the confidentiality of information received
- To ensure records are properly maintained, e.g. daily attendance register, accident and incident forms
- To understand and work to nursery policies and procedures, including how to deal with child protection issues appropriately and how to respond to incidents, accidents, complaints and emergencies
- To attend all training relevant to the role and deemed appropriate by the manager/ training provider including parent’s evenings and monthly out of hours staff meetings
- To attend team planning sessions and participate in sharing ideas

At the workplace, you will be trained on Paediatric First Aid, Full induction, and In-house training on our policies & procedures.
You will also attend weekly Off-The-Job training college days at South Devon College, Vantage Point, Paignton.

Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- English (grade 4)
- Maths (grade 4)
Let the company know about other relevant qualifications and industry experience you have. They can adjust the apprenticeship to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements
You will need to have achieved a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 3(D) or above. You will need to complete a DBS Check. We pride ourselves on our outdoor learning, so the children get to go outside every day.

YMCA South Devon is a registered charity which runs Muddy Wellies Nursery. Muddy Wellies Nursery is a friendly day nursery which offers places for children from 6 months to 4 years. Our setting celebrates the outdoors with a beautiful woodland area and outdoor garden areas, set just a few minutes walk from beautiful beaches. Children learn through a play-based curriculum which encourages them to develop vital skills through discovery and exploration.
