Summary

Philip Deane Accountancy is an independant practice looking to recruit an accounts technician apprentice at the start of their accounting career. Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Bookkeeping – processing payments, invoices, income and reciepts and entering data into accounting software.
  • Bookkeeping – preperation of monthly management accounts, cash flow and reporting.
  • Preperation of accounts; sole trader, partnerships.
  • Preperation of income tax computations and returns.
  • Completion of VAT returns.

Course contents
  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
  • Your training plan

    Duration:

    • 13 months practical training period, plus 3 months for End Point Assessment.

    Delivery model:

    • Work-based training with your employer.
    • Day release during term time (approximately 1 day a week or 2 evenings for a year).
    • Off the job training will count for at least 6 hours a week of an apprentice’s time at work.

    Qualifications included:

    • Level 1 Functional Skills in English and Maths.
    • AAT Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting.
    • Level 2 Accountants or Finance Assistant Apprenticeship.

    End Point Assessment:

    • In-tray test.
    • Portfolio.
    • Structured Interview.

    Essential qualifications

    GCSE or equivalent in:

    • Maths & English (grade A*- C / 9 - 4)

    Other requirements

    The accountancy and finance knowledge developed in this qualification is also the underpinning knowledge needed for the higher-level accountancy and financial skills developed in the AAT Advanced and Professional Accounting qualifications. The Wage for apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent training.
