Summary

Apprentices will receive training from industry professionals in one of Curtiss Wright’s key segments. Industrial, Defence or Sensors and Controls. Apprentices will have the opportunity to work across multiple departments within the organisation, allowing valuable hands on experience with the design and manufacture processes.

An apprentice will support different departments and work in a supervised environment for the majority of their training period. Successful candidates will rotate through various departments including Production and Engineering. They will start in September 2025 and progress through the salary scales which is linked to successful achievements of each year of their College course.

  • Provides support to various departments / department leads during their training period
  • Learn about products, processes, machinery, systems, culture and people through completion of the Apprenticeship scheme.
  • Provides reports, analysis and statistical data as required by local management.
  • May provide support and guidance to other Apprentices and to the HR Manager in delivering induction / hiring activities, presentations etc.

Course contents
  • Foundation Stage: Complying with statutory regulations and stringent organisational safety requirements
  • Foundation Stage: Producing components using hand fitting, fabrication and joining techniques
  • Foundation Stage: Producing Computer Aided Design (CAD) models (drawings) using a CAD system
  • Foundation Stage: Preparing and using lathes, milling and other general or specialist machines and high tech equipment
  • Foundation Stage: Preparing and proving Computer Numeric Control programmes
  • Foundation Stage: Using computer software packages to assist with and evaluate engineering activities
  • Foundation Stage: Producing and managing engineering project plans
  • Foundation Stage: Producing assemblies using a wide range of materials and techniques
  • Development Team: Project management and scheduling engineering activities
  • Development Team: Securing appropriate resources and managing budgets and resources
  • Development Team: Implementing, monitoring and evaluating engineering processes

Your training plan

Apprentice attends Day Release at Bournemouth and Poole College/Bournemouth University to complete their Apprenticeship qualifications; they will start this from HNC through to degree level, depending on the qualifications on joining. The Apprenticeship training course is a total of 5 years, however, this may vary between regions.

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE or equivalent in:

  • 4 GCSEs Including English and Maths (grade 4 or above)

A Level in:

  • 3 A levels one of which being Maths or Physics (grade minimum 3 Cs)

Desirable qualifications

BTEC or equivalent in:

  • mechanical or electronics (grade )
