Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Western Avenue London Aston Martin have a fantastic opportunity for a Light Vehicle Technician Apprentice to join the family at their prestigious Aston Martin dealership. This is an exciting role with first-class training at The Aston Martin Training Facility at Emtec, Ruddington Nottingham with outstanding long-term career prospects.

Duties will include:

Working alongside qualified Aston Martin Technicians with the investigation, repair and service of vehicles.
Producing estimates.
Carrying out diagnostics.
Warranty work.
Assisting with MOT’s on Aston Martin vehicles.
Other general technical duties and general housekeeping.
Providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers.

The training will take place eight weeks per year via block release to The Aston Martin Training Facility at Emtec Colleges Nottingham.

Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and efficient workshop. Segregate waste for disposal or recycling. Comply with industry environmental legislation.
Demonstrate due regard for own safety and that of others in the workshop and minimise risk of injury and vehicle damage.
Carry out fundamental tasks associated with removal and replacement procedures on a vehicle.
Obtain diagnostic and repair information.
Interpret diagnostic information and use electrical wiring diagrams to determine system serviceability.
Use a range of diagnostic equipment.
Follow recognised diagnostic procedures, logical diagnostic sequence and apply advanced diagnostic principles and problem-solving techniques to establish faults.
Report faults using company procedures and recommend suitable further actions.
Follow recognised repair procedures to complete a wide range of repairs including those which involve complex procedures, or in depth knowledge.
Test the function of repaired and fitted components.
Adhere to business processes and complete documentation following workplace procedures.
Use ICT to create emails, word-process documents and carry out web based searches.
Complete a range of services and inspect and prepare a vehicle to the required quality standard for handover to the customer.

Your training plan

Candidates will work towards achieving the Light Vehicle Technician Apprenticeship Standard at level 3. They will also be required to study towards achieving level 2 maths and English functional skills if they do not already hold equivalent qualifications.

The training will take place eight weeks per year via block release to The Aston Martin Training Facility at Emtec College Nottingham.

The programme lasts for 36 months. The training incorporates underpinning knowledge in partnership and managed by EMTEC Colleges.

The programme will also include the core Aston Martin Technical courses:

Technical Induction.
Advanced AMDS.
Engine Management Systems.
Vehicle Electrical Systems.
Short Engine Rebuild.
Sportshift Transmission.

Essential qualifications

GCSE or equivalent in:

Maths and English (grade 4)

Other requirements

The current National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £6.40 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training. * Please note that anyone over the age of 18 may be offered to work over 40 hours per week * *Please note if the successful applicant is found prior to the closing date the vacancy maybe withdrawn early* The post-holder must be working towards gaining their driving licence by the end of the apprenticeship due to the requirements of the role. The apprentice will be expected to purchase basic tools throughout the apprenticeship duration to build up their own kit. The candidate must be available to start immediately and be able to travel to the workplace according to the working hours.

After this apprenticeship

Upon successful completion of your IMI Level 2 qualification, you will then progress following a review with your employer onto your IMI Level 3 therefore altogether the apprenticeship can take up to 3 years to complete.

There is high potential of a permanent role with the organisation upon successful completion of your apprenticeship with room for progression. Your salary shall be reviewed throughout your apprenticeship.
