Summary

As a Finance Apprentice, you'll have the opportunity to work in the Finance division, looking after the Firm’s books and records. Examples of the types of roles performed include the preparation of financial statements, analysis of financial performance, accounting and tax advisory, valuation reviews as well as ensuring adherence to regulations.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

A typical day:

Due to the exciting and dynamic nature of the roles within Finance, no two days are the same, from analysing and summarising data, to supporting the Business Units and working on technology projects, the scope of the role is extensive. This creates an excellent setting for learning and personal growth.

Examples of responsibilities include:

  • Collating and analysing data sets using Excel to identify and understand key insights, and then presenting the results to your manager/team
  • Challenging and investigating problems that arise and proposing thoughtful solutions
  • Continuous learning to develop an understanding of investment banking products, trading, tax laws, accounting standards and technology skills
  • Preparing financial summaries as well as reviewing and validating their accuracy
  • Exploring the use of a variety of Digital Tools and Software to improve existing processes and minimise errors to ensure quality and accuracy of data

Course contents
  • Use data systems securely to meet requirements and in line with organisational procedures and legislation including principles of Privacy by Design
  • implement the stages of the data analysis lifecycle
  • apply principles of data classification within data analysis activity
  • analyse data sets taking account of different data structures and database designs
  • assess the impact on user experience and domain context on data analysis activity
  • identify and escalate quality risks in data analysis with suggested mitigation or resolutions as appropriate
  • undertake customer requirements analysis and implement findings in data analytics planning and outputs
  • identify data sources and the risks and challenges to combination within data analysis activity
  • apply organizational architecture requirements to data analysis activities
  • apply statistical methodologies to data analysis tasks
  • apply predictive analytics in the collation and use of data
  • collaborate and communicate with a range of internal and external stakeholders using appropriate styles and behaviours to suit the audience
  • use a range of analytical techniques such as data mining, time series forecasting and modelling techniques to identify and predict trends and patterns in data
  • collate and interpret qualitative and quantitative data and convert into infographics, reports, tables, dashboards and graphs
  • select and apply the most appropriate data tools to achieve the optimum outcome

Your training plan

Data Analyst Level 4.

20% off your working week will be dedicated to 'Off the job training' - ie apprenticeship studies which are completed online during work hours. This will include independent self paced learning, online tutorials alongside other apprentices and 1:1 coaching.

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4-9 (C-A))
  • Maths (grade B)

A Level in:

  • Three A Levels - 1 STEM subject required (grade A* - C)

After your Data Analysis Apprenticeship, you can progress into any Junior Data Analyst, Data Scientist and Data engineer role. You'll have the skills to run insight analytical projects from beginning to end and work within a Data Analytics team.
