Summary
As a machine/CNC section apprentice, you'll learn manual machining such as grinding, milling, and turning. You'll also operate CNC machines like millers, wire, and spark eroders, and learn how to program them. This includes modifying existing programs and using various software, including 5-axis programs.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
Key areas of responsibility, duties and the deliverables expected:
- Maintain standards of Housekeeping and health & safety
- Manufacture of new tooling to engineering drawings in line with timing plans
- Carrying out proactive maintenance and upkeep on machines
- Liaise with toolmakers, Cad/Cam programmers and designers
- Maintain tooling to the correct standards and keep stock of all tools and holders
- Reporting of any concerns, issues and repairs
- Working in a systematic fashion following any instructions available
- All work checked before taking off
- Maintain working area to a high standard. Working to 5S’s
- Good verbal communication skills
- Work to the high tolerances
- Adhere to company quality awareness
- Meeting health and safety standards supporting others to do the same
- Assist other areas of the business when required to carry out the same or similar tasks
- Any other reasonable engineering duties required

Together with invaluable commercial and practical experience, you’ll gain several academic and vocational qualifications throughout your time with us, which are fully paid for, including:
● Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence) – off-the-job full-time at Make UK in Aston, Birmingham in year 1
● Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence)
● Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)
● In-house training in line with your requirements
Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE or equivalent in:
- English Language (grade C/4)
- Maths (grade 4/C)
