Summary

As a member of the Essex Cricket in the Community (ECiC) Team, the Cricket Development Apprentice will support the building and sustaining relationships across the county with schools, clubs and other external sport partners, and for delivering top quality programmes, which grow and sustain participation in cricket, for people of all ages.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Through the Chance to Shine programme, they will support the development and delivery of cricket activity across Primary and Secondary sectors: 

  • Create school environments where children can play cricket 
  • Gives schools the confidence to deliver cricket independently of external support 
  • Helps children to develop better leadership skills

This will be done through: 

  • Supporting the Setting up a schools programme through Chance to Shine (CtS), for schools in Essex across both Primary and Secondary Sectors

Support deliver (as and when required) a schools coaching program that will include coaching, teacher training, Intra-School competition and delivering the 'MCC Spirit of Cricket' message 

  • Support the Monitoring, data input and reporting of Chance to Shine (CtS) projects
  • Support Develop and sustain partnerships with School Sports Partnerships and School Games Organisers 
  • Support the successful running of Inter-School competition, including Table Cricket, Dynamos Schools, Chance to Compete competitions 
  • Support Develop relationships between identified schools and local cricket clubs, encouraging pupils to migrate into a club environment 

To deliver other cricket activity that: 

  • Encourages new people to play cricket (ECB National Programmes All Stars & Dynamos)
  • Keeps current players in the game 
  • Encourages current players to play cricket more often

 This will be done through: 

  • Working with Youth Engagement Officers and Community Coaches (as and when required) to support cricket activity in non-traditional establishments (Chance to Shine Street / National Programme Centres)
  • Supporting activity which increases participation in cricket for people with a disability

Support the delivery of developed programmes against the following service and improvement areas: 

  • Schools School Competitions (Table Cricket, Dynamos & Chance to Compete) 
  • Community- Chance to Shine Street Festivals / Mini Match Play
  • Ensure that programmes and activities are delivered to an agreed timescale when required

Course contents
  • Operational: Gather facts and collate information in response to a brief or request, like searching for the right location and venue for an event.
  • Operational: Respond to requests from the different functional teams and carry out a variety of daily and weekly tasks to assist in the planning and preparation of an event.
  • Operational: Provide assistance onsite at an event by registering delegates or by helping to assist the onsite team with a variety of tasks.
  • Operational: Manage your time effectively by understanding how to prioritise tasks according to their importance and urgency for the stakeholders of an event.
  • Operational: Use software packages to create word processing and spreadsheet documents.
  • Operational: Contribute to reports, event project plans and written presentations for clients
  • Operational: Use a range of event technology platforms and in-house bespoke software systems and databases.
  • Operational: Show careful attention to regulations and internal policies.
  • Professional: Listen, interpret, understand, vocalise and respond to clients’ needs.
  • Professional: Speak and write clearly in order to prepare written communications or provide instructions that are needed for a client, supplier or team member.
  • Professional: Build rapport and trust with the stakeholders of an event so that stakeholders can collaborate well throughout the planning and organisation processes.
  • Professional: Question effectively to ensure understanding of what is required from clients or colleagues.
  • Professional: Have the skills to maintain relationships with colleagues, suppliers or clients once they are built, and be able to repair them when they are damaged.
  • Professional: Work effectively within a group environment to prepare for, deliver and/or follow up after an event takes place.
  • Commercial: Assist in the preparation, management and reconciliation of event budgets by collecting information, checking data and making calculations.
  • Commercial: Show how commercial awareness has been applied through task and time management, specifically using efficient and effective measures to conclude a project in the most proficient way.
  • Your training plan

    Event Assistant Level 3 - Apprenticeship Standard:

    • Depending on area, you will be assigned a tutor and training will be blended - involving both virtual and face-to-face
    • Training will be weekly and, Off the job training hours will be logged
    • You will be working with an E-portfolio (BUD System) and alongside your tutor you will be assigned a mentor from within your workplace
    • Following a successful Gateway meeting you will move forwards for an End Point Assessment - Upon successful completion of the EPA you will achieve a Level 3 Event Assistant Apprenticeship qualification
    • Functional Skills in maths and English, if required
    • Your tutor will visit for observations in the workplace

    GCSE or equivalent in:

    • Maths - English (grade 4)
