What you will do in your working day

The Council’s Revenue and Benefits team are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and hardworking person to join us as an apprentice.

Are you keen to learn and develop your own skills through the apprenticeship and also through the supervision and guidance of the team?

If the answer is yes to the above then submit your application now! Our friendly team are keen to work with the successful candidate and you will have a workplace mentor to guide and support you. The role will include some time working at the Civic Centre on Chesterfield Road in Mansfield, and some working from home. You will undertake the level 3 Business Administration Apprenticeship with West Nottinghamshire College.

  • To work with colleagues to develop customer service skills to a high level to provide a professional customer response service.
  • To develop your revenue and benefits knowledge in order to provide customers with appropriate service information.
  • To develop questioning skills in order to identify the customers’ needs and escalate priority issues.
  • To have an empathetic and sympathetic approach when required but understand when to escalate queries to a manager.
  • To develop knowledge of the council’s internal departments and external agencies to route customer enquiries to an appropriate person
  • To develop the required skills and knowledge to make follow up calls and written communications where necessary.
  • To support the debtors system and assist with data entry using accuracy and attention to detail.
  • To undertake all aspects of revenues and benefits gaining and developing an understanding of business processes and the ‘hands on’ approach of excellent service delivery.
  • To comply with Information Security and Data Protection policy and principles.
  • To undertake any other tasks as agreed with the Revenues and Benefits Team Leaders.
  • Operate according to the Council’s corporate values and codes of behaviour.
  • Ensure that at all times all Health & Safety legislative requirements are met; that the Council’s Health & Safety Policy, its arrangements and procedures are implemented. This includes, where applicable, taking responsibility for personal health and safety and having regard to other persons affected by the performance of the duties of the post; ensuring that risk management objectives are delivered and other risk management activities are effectively implemented and monitored.
  • Exercise proper care in handling, operating or safeguarding any equipment, vehicle or appliance provided, used or issued for the performance of the duties of the post.
  • Have a commitment to and understanding of the Council’s approach to equality and diversity and promote and deliver fair, sensitive and quality services.
  • Comply with all relevant Council policies and procedures including code of conduct, financial regulations, HR policies / procedures, Data Protection, Freedom of Information Act and ICT Codes of Practice.

The training you will be getting

Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship standard, including Functional Skills if required.

This is a work based programme which means that all of your learning will take place on the site of your employment and within your contracted working hours. We host supporting workshops regularly throughout the apprenticeship which you can attend in person at our Derby Road campus or virtually via Microsoft Teams.

You will work with expert assessors to develop new knowledge, skills and behaviours within the profession.

You will experience a blended learning model.

You will gather learning evidence, journals and off-the-job records using your e-portfolio.

At the end of the planned learning period, it will be agreed that you are ready to enter 'Gateway' and for your End Point Assessment to be arranged.
