What you will do in your working day

General duties will be as follows under the supervision of a trained Technician:

  • Working on and installing Water Chillers, Air Conditioning Systems and Close Control Units.
  • Attend and participate in customer site visits.
  • Learning the principles of refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
  • Helping to troubleshoot and support technically challenging breakdowns.
  • Working on electrical power supplies and control panels.
  • Provide scheduled maintenance on systems.
  • Carry out quality checks to make sure systems are working properly and safely.
  • Install components.
  • Attending college

The training you will be getting

Full Level 3 Refrigeration Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Engineering Technician apprenticeship standard.

This programme includes:

  • Refrigeration, Air-Conditioning and Heat Pump Systems Diploma Level 2
  • Award in F-Gas and ODS Regulations: Category I Level 2
  • Refrigeration, Air-Conditioning and Heat Pump Systems Diploma L3

You will work with expert assessors to develop new knowledge, skills and behaviours within the profession.

You will experience a blended learning model.

You will gather learning evidence, journals and off-the-job records using your e-portfolio.

This is a day release delivery model which means that during term time, you are expected to attrnd weekly (one day per week), during term time to further enhance your knowledge, skills and behaviours.

At the end of the planned learning period, it will be agreed that you are ready to enter 'Gateway' and for your End Point Assessment to be arranged.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

  • Full time employment upon completing apprenticeship successfully with ongoing training to ensure your skills remain relevant to the industry.
