What you will do in your working day
- To work alongside qualified Engineers testing equipment returning from customers sites replacing any failed parts or parts likely to fail when the refrigeration kit leaves the yard for its next customer.
- To work alongside qualified Engineers testing equipment before it leaves for a customer site, completing paperwork/certificates indicating the equipment is safe, recording results including passed electrical test.
- Monitor the quality of the parts and equipment we use making suggestions for improvements to the supervisor. Reporting any trends in failures noticed.
- Set up equipment for the correct application as per the production schedule and as per instruction from the supervisor and senior engineer you are working with.
- Attend customer’s sites alongside Qualified Engineers from time to time when requested to carry out various works.
- Assist on Modular Build Installation projects as required mainly design and build from the workshop. Including building of control panels from drawings.
- To undertake specific duties and responsibilities set by the Workshop supervisor to assist with the day to day running of the department.
- Report any unsafe tools or equipment promptly to the workshop supervisor
- To help make adjustments to fridge kits that will eliminate any potential future refrigerant leaks
The training you will be getting
Level 3 Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Technician apprenticeship standard, including Functional Skills if required.
This apprenticeship includes:
- Refrigeration, Air-Conditioning and Heat Pump Systems Diploma Level 2
- Award in F-Gas and ODS Regulations: Category I Level 2
- Refrigeration, Air-Conditioning and Heat Pump Systems Diploma L3
This programme is delivered via a day release delivery model which means that one day per week, your attendance is required at our engineering campus. This attendance is required during term time only.
You will work with expert assessors to develop new knowledge, skills and behaviours within the profession.
You will experience a blended learning model.
You will gather learning evidence, journals and off-the-job records using your e-portfolio.
At the end of the planned learning period, it will be agreed by all parties that you are ready to enter 'Gateway' and for your End Point Assessment to be arranged.
What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship
- On completion of the apprenticeship, for the right candidate, there may be an opportunity to progress into a permanent role with further training to ensure your skill set remains relevant.
