What you will do in your working day
You will receive on the job training in all elements of your role. Your duties will include;
- Perform pneumatic maintenance tasks, including the replacement of parts such as changing flexible pipes, valves and filters.
- Conduct hydraulic maintenance, including the replacement of parts such as pumps, hoses, valves, seals and coolant management.
- Conduct mechanical maintenance, including the replacement of parts such as bearings, drive chains and sprockets.
- Handle electrical maintenance tasks, including fault finding and replacement of switches, sensors, stop/start buttons, photocells.
- Perform routine servicing of machinery, including visual checks, monitoring oil levels, and greasing moving parts.
- Diagnose and repair machinery breakdowns by identifying faults and implementing appropriate solutions.
- Conduct fault diagnosis and part sourcing, including online searches for correct parts and liaising with purchasing to acquire necessary components.
- Perform monthly health and safety checks on equipment, such as ladders and manual pallet trucks, and ensure compliance with H&S regulations.
- Complete all maintenance work according to company standards and document all activities for record-keeping purposes.
The training you will be getting
Level 3 Engineering Technician apprenticeship standard.
This apprenticeship standard includes:
- Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)
- Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) – Mechatronics Maintenance Technician
- Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)
You will work with expert assessors to develop new knowledge, skills and behaviours within the profession.
You will experience a blended learning model.
This programme is delivered via a day release delivery model which means that one day per week, your attendance is required at our engineering campus, NG17. This attendance is required during term time only.
You will gather learning evidence, journals and off-the-job records using your e-portfolio.
At the end of the planned learning period, it will be agreed that you are ready to enter 'Gateway' and for your End Point Assessment to be arranged.
What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship
- Upon successful completion of this apprenticeship there may be the opportunity to progress to a HND/HNC Engineering apprenticeship with this employer.
