Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
- Assist the teacher in delivering lessons, particularly in early years, supporting play-based learning and child development.
- Prepare age-appropriate learning materials and resources to engage children in creative, hands-on activities.
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to children, helping with early literacy, numeracy, and social skills development.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment that encourages curiosity, independence, and positive behaviour.
- Support the implementation of the EYFS framework to ensure holistic development in young children.
- Assist with classroom management, ensuring routines are followed and students are engaged.
- Observe and document children’s progress, reporting findings to inform future planning.
- Promote positive relationships with parents and carers, sharing updates on children’s development.
- Support children with additional needs, ensuring inclusive learning for all.
- Ensure safety and supervision during play and physical activities, encouraging active participation.

More training information
The successful candidate will be assigned a dedicated work-based trainer who will provide support and guidance throughout the course. This Apprenticeship is delivered wholly in the workplace, the successful candidate will not need to attend any weekly sessions at the Grimsby Institute unless maths or English is required as part of the apprenticeship.
