Summary

You’ll study a Level 6 Chartered Surveyor Degree Apprenticeship, which combines a part-time undergraduate degree in Quantity Surveying with hands-on work experience. As you progress, you’ll work towards achieving your Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) through the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you’ll do at work

  • You will assess the financial impact and profitability of construction projects.
  • You will become an expert in the art of costing a building at all stages. Not only that, but you’ll also ensure that each project meets legal and quality standards.
  • You will be working on construction projects from the very start.
  • You’ll gain hands-on experience in everything from cost planning and contract administration to procurement and financial reporting.

Course contents
  • Be able to apply and evaluate the principles for the avoidance of conflict and dispute resolution such as adjudication and arbitration between project stakeholders
  • Be able to identify and manage risks of health, safety and welfare in line with legislation, hazards and safe systems of work
  • Analyse costs and benefits of sustainability initiatives on a project
  • Be able to advise on the legal aspects of a project and the most suitable form of contract to be used to ensure fairness and efficiency
  • Be able to advise on the most suitable construction solutions that maximise value for clients and enhance the cost effectiveness of the project within the budget constraints
  • Be able to advise on the appropriateness of various procurement routes and manage and report on the tendering and negotiation processes to select specialist contractors
  • Advise on appropriate methods of measurement of completed works and issue documentation required for payment to specialist contractors and income from client
  • Advise construction team and the client on strategies to control predicted expenditure in line with the budget
  • Carry out risk assessments and implement strategies to mitigate risk
  • Monitor, report and advise construction team on project cashflows and profitability. Evaluate and advise on financial implications of decisions during the construction phase
  • Assess, interpret and report on progress and assist in the control of programmes during the construction phase

Your training plan

  • Construction Quantity Surveyor Level 6 (Degree) Apprenticeship.
  • Training will take place virtually with training provider.

The following qualifications will be gained:

  • A BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying or equivalent Quantity Surveying Level 6 Diploma that is approved by the industry’s recognised professional bodies and meets the educational requirements for the professional bodies’ full membership or chartered status.
  • Industry certificates in Site Safety Plus Site Managers’ Safety Training Scheme and Site Environmental Awareness Training Scheme which are required for safe operations in the workplace.

Completing an apprenticeship at Cushman & Wakefield offers the unique opportunity to work alongside subject matter experts, allowing you to directly apply your theoretical knowledge in your day-to-day role. Throughout your apprenticeship, you will develop the skills, knowledge, and professional behaviors necessary to become a chartered surveyor within 5.5 years. In addition to your on-the-job experience, you’ll receive regular training from our in-house APC Consultant, ensuring your continuous professional growth. If your performance is strong, you'll transition to our graduate programme in year four, where you'll continue working towards your APC Chartership.

Essential qualifications

GCSE or equivalent in:

  • Mathematics (grade 4)

A Level in:

  • any subject (grade 96 UCAS via A-Level or BTEC)
