Summary
Working in our engineering department on the manufacture of truck bodies & trailers for retail customers and our own sales team. As well as attending the college on a day release basis, a full internal training programme will be followed to learn the whole range of skills to enable the candidate to become fully skilled in our profession.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
- To attend college on a day release basis on an engineering & welding NVQ course
- To carry out conversions and fabrication duties in line with written and verbal instructions under supervision to standards set by Company management in order to pass the appropriate quality checks
- To carry out general workshop duties as and when required
- To work towards the required coding standard for welders
- To work in accordance with the ISO 9001 Quality Management System
- To operate machinery and equipment in accordance with legislative guidelines and adhere to all health and safety procedures

Course contents
- Work safely at all times, comply with health & safety legislation, regulations and organisational requirements.
- Comply with environmental legislation, regulations and organisational requirements.
- Obtain, check and use the appropriate documentation (such as job instructions, drawings, quality control documentation).
- Carry out relevant planning and preparation activities before commencing work activity.
- Undertake the work activity using the correct processes, procedures and equipment.
- Carry out the required checks (such as quality, compliance or testing) using the correct procedures, processes and/or equipment.
- Deal promptly and effectively with problems within the limits of their responsibility using approved diagnostic methods and techniques and report those which cannot be resolved to the appropriate personnel.
- Complete any required documentation using the defined recording systems at the appropriate stages of the work activity.
- Restore the work area on completion of the activity and where applicable return any resources and consumables to the appropriate location.
- Identify and follow correct Metal work instructions, specifications, drawing etc.
- Mark out using appropriate tools and techniques.
- Cut and form Metal for the production or maintenance of fabricated products.
- Produce and assemble Metal products to required specification and quality requirements.
- Identify and follow correct joining instructions, specifications, drawing etc.
- Carry out the relevant preparation before starting the joining fabrication activity.
- Set up, check, adjust and use joining and related equipment.
- Weld joints in accordance with approved welding procedures and quality requirements.

Your training plan
- You will attend York College 1 day per week on day release during term time

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- 2 other subjects (grade 4)
- English (grade 4)
- maths (grade 4)

Other requirements
Working in our workshops in Market Weighton. When authorised to do so, overtime could be required. Typical overtime worked is 1 x hour per day. Trading since 1981, 60 employees. Truck body & trailer manufacturer. Shotblasting & painting of trucks/trailers. Used truck sales including exporting all over the world.
After this apprenticeship
This is a full-time role, and it would be expected that the apprentice would continue to learn all aspects of our trade allowing them to take on complex projects themselves and become a valued member of our team.
