Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
- Preparing MDS trays for the dispensing robot. This includes manually putting medications into each tray that is not suitable to go into the robot, such as, large or brittle tablets.
- Dispense and check medication accurately that has been distributed in patients' pill trays by the robot for the pharmacist to complete the final check.
- De-blistering medication.
- Answer the telephone and respond to queries professionally.
- Order medicines and stock management.
- Ensure the correct storage of medication, including effective stock rotation.
- Monitor and check expiry dates on the medication.
- Comply with legal and company guidelines such as SOPs and GPhC regulations.
- Respect confidentiality of information concerning customers in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
- Support all members of the pharmacy team.

Course contents
- receive and log prescriptions
- assemble prescribed items, undertake an in-process accuracy check and issue prescribed items

About this company
J. Docter Limited is an independent pharmacy chain located in the West Midlands. We currently have an exciting opportunity for a full time Pharmacy Apprentice to work at our robotic dispensary in Oldbury. Our Monitored Dosage System (MDS) robot is an automated system for preparing and dispensing solid oral medications. Dispensing medications in blister packs provides our customers with a safe and independent way of taking their medications. The successful candidate will join our friendly and hardworking team and will be required to operate all aspects of the robot process for the preparation of MDS packs for our patients. Training will be provided.
