Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

PETA Ltd are proud to be working with an award-winning charity to recruit a Finance Administrator Apprentice to support within the finance department, but also the wider organisation. The successful candidate will be supported through the apprenticeship by a close-knit finance team and have the opportunity to get involved with a range of other opportunities throughout the charity.

The Finance Administrator Apprentice will be responsible for contributing to the delivery of the teams agreed objectives, supporting to maximise the company’s revenue and ensure profitability through the following duties:

  • To gain a good knowledge of the Charities objectives, activities and processes to understand their impact for accounting and finance
  • To participate in all relevant projects that support the delivery of the Charities goals
  • To ensure the accurate capture, collation and processing of sensitive financial and accounting data such as invoices, payments and receipts and providing general administrative and transactional support
  • To use financial and accounting software packages to input and manage data safely and securely in line with organisational instructions
  • Examining data to identify any issues with quality or accuracy and escalating where appropriate
  • Reconciling data to minimise errors across all ledgers
  • Production of Sales invoices, debtor collection and customer liaison
  • Processing of Purchase invoices with Purchase orders and creating payment output
  • Liaising with individual project managers to ensure budgets are met
  • Reconciliation of Charity bank accounts
  • Assisting the Head of Finance with the production of financial reports as and when required
  • To keep all financial and non-financial information and records up to date and ensuring all relevant back up information is filed correctly
  • Establish own priorities and workload with the Head of Finance to ensure tasks can be completed to deadlines and support team members to do the same
  • Develop your own knowledge to contribute to any accounting process issues
  • Keep up to date with developments to enhance relevant skills and take responsibility for your own professional development
  • To communicate with internal and external stakeholders using appropriate methods and professional language. Examples may include letters, ‘phone, face-to-face, e-mail, video call, online chat functions etc
  • Undertake any other duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post with due regard to the Charities values

Your training plan

Level 2 Finance/Accounts Assistant Apprenticeship Standard. You will complete a 15-month apprenticeship which includes 1 day per week at the PETA training centre in Cosham. You will be supported every 6 weeks with visits from your PETA Learning & Development Coach.

GCSE in:

  • English (grade C/4)
  • Maths (grade C/4)

Pompey in the Community is an award-winning charity which harnesses the motivational power of Portsmouth Football Club to promote education, healthy living, sporting participation and achievement among vulnerable and disadvantaged people of all ages. We’ve helped many people in the local Portsmouth area in a huge variety of ways, for example: 36,000 participants accessed our programmes with over 3,000 children engaged in curriculum activity. We distributed approximately 3.6 tonnes of food bank donations across Portsmouth. Our Pompey Pedals team volunteered 6000 hours to provide access to cycling in an inclusive, stimulating environment. Offered over 1,000 places during the Summer holidays alone for children on free school meals to access our Holiday Activity and Food programmes. 95% of these parents and carers said they wouldn’t have access to hot meals in the holidays without this programme. 95% of our participants report increased feelings of happiness in our Bluesability Adult Disability programme. 93% of our participants report reduced feelings of loneliness in our Life ’n’ Chimes Dementia support group. Around 70 students are completing a qualification with us at Level 3 or above.
