Summary

As an IT Apprentice, you will be joining the IT Support Team, providing technical support for ICT users across Sherborne Area Schools Trust, with tasks including installing, configuring, testing, maintaining and repairing PCs, software and peripherals including multimedia equipment to school specifications.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Provide operational support for the Trust’s ICT systems to deliver an efficient and effective service to pupils, staff and parents.
  • To respond in a timely manner to IT helpdesk tickets and requests ensuring service level agreed timescales are met.
  • Answer telephone and email requests for support placing new items on the IT helpdesk. 
  • To communicate clearly with staff that report IT problems and request support, using the helpdesk and email. 
  • Set up equipment such as laptops, data projectors, interactive whiteboards, sound systems and other specialist equipment, ensuring that systems are ready for use and operating correctly.
  • To assist with the installation, configuration, maintenance and documentation of networking equipment as required.
  • To establish and maintain user accounts for all staff, pupils and parents using the school network, including disk space, print quotas, granting appropriate permissions, access and security levels according to the school’s policy.
  • Work as part of a wider school team and work effectively and collaboratively with all colleagues in delivering service excellence and contributing positively to school life.

  • Interpret and prioritise internal or external customer's requirements in line with organisation's policy

  • Use basic scripting to execute the relevant tasks for example PowerShell, Linux
  • Carry out routine maintenance across systems, (such as IT, Communications), ensuring organisational compliance at all times
  • Apply the necessary security, in line with access and/or encryption requirements
  • Use a range of Cabling or Connectors equipment in line with technical requirements for example physically or remotely
  • Test and evaluate network environments

  • Apply necessary security measures, in line with access requirements to a network
  • Carry out routine maintenance across network systems, ensuring organisational compliance

  • Establish digital communication or telecommunications systems through, for example cabling and connecting equipment.
  • Identify a range of tools and or diagnostic equipment, for example, Hardware or Software components, to resolve Communications or Telecommunications requirements.
  • Undertake basic telecommunications activities, in response to an allocated task, designated responsibilities, instructions or customer’s requirements.

Your training plan

The apprenticeship training is delivered 100% in the workplace with regular meetings with a Yeovil College Assessor. This training will teach you the knowledge, skills and behaviours set out in the Information Communications Technician standard.

You will be required to visit a number of SAST schools, so a full driver’s license and use of your own car is essential. Please note that the address on this advert is for the Gryphon School in Sherborne however this apprenticeship could be completed in any of SAST's Secondary Schools including The Gryphon (Sherborne), Shaftesbury School (Shaftesbury), King Arthurs (Wincanton) or Sturminster Newton (Sturminster). After this apprenticeship

On completion of this apprenticeship, you will receive the Information Communications Technician Level 3 qualification. You will be able to use this qualification to progress within IT Support.
