An exciting opportunity has arisen for an apprentice to join the accounts team at Gascoynes. The successful candidate will be trained on different accounting software whilst working towards their AAT qualification. The role includes working with the team to grow the accounts aspect of the business, preparation of year end accounts and more.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
Our accounts team provides clients with modern accounting and tax services, utilising the latest cloud technology. The team plays a critical role in the completion of client’s compliance work such as accounts preparation, tax calculations and management reporting.
You will be carrying out the following duties:
- Preparation of year end accounts and associated tax calculations
- Working alongside client managers to assist with their ledgers
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts (bank, purchase ledger, sales ledger, PAYE, wages, VAT etc.)
- Prepare reports, letters and other documents
- Working towards a multitude of deadlines on behalf of yourself and the wider team
- Working with the team to grow the accounts aspect of the business

Course contents
- Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
- Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
- Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
- Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
- Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
- Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
- Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
- Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
- Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
- Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Your training plan
- Full support with study costs whilst completing the Level 3 AAT Accounts Assistant (depending on current qualifications) apprenticeship that is offered
- Following the initial completion of the apprenticeship, you will receive continued support to complete the AAT qualification
- The successful candidate will be required to attend weekday courses, once a week, at their nearest First Intuition centre to study towards their AAT Level 3 qualification as well as mentoring towards the Level 3 Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship knowledge, skills, and behaviours
Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- 5 GCSEs or equivalent- including English and Maths (grade 9-4 (A*-C) or equivalent)
Desirable qualifications
A Level or equivalent in:
- Any (grade Passed)

Other requirements
Gascoynes is looking for a school/college leaver to start an apprenticeship in August 2025. Gascoynes will be making conditional offers to candidates based on their predicted grades. Working week is 37.5 hours with overtime expected in busier periods. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that's part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week). Applicant will need to travel to their nearest First Intuition centre for AAT courses. The position is for a Level 3 apprenticeship however, a Level 2 apprenticeship will be considered if it is more suitable for the successful candidate.
