Summary

During an exceptional 44-month training programme you will learn and develop the technical skills and theory to become a member of our maintenance team. You will work towards 3 manufacturing engineering qualifications which form part of the Apprenticeship Standard. Upon successful completion you are guaranteed a permanent position at Toyota.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Training in our onsite Technical Skills Development Centre, you will learn skills such as welding, electrical installation, technical drawing and PLC programming, through a mix of classroom based and hands on work.

For the first 22 months (Stage 1), you will train in our onsite Technical Skills Development Centre, gaining practical experience in a variety of skill areas and learning the technical theory behind them 50% of the time. You will spend the rest of your time on a shop placement, applying your learning in one of our many areas.
Your final 22 months (Stage 2) will be spent in a hands-on role, learning how to practically apply and develop your new skills in a real-work environment.
You will work alongside and be supported by our high skilled maintenance team members.

Course contents

Your training plan

Toyota maintenance apprentices will complete their training in our onsite Technical Skills Development Centre.
Further offsite activities will develop teamwork, communication, and planning through an outward-bound residential and community volunteer project.
Level 3 Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard is awarded by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education on completion of End-Point Assessment.

The apprenticeship also contains 3 mandatory embedded qualifications which are certificated during the 44-month apprenticeship training period:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering – Foundation Competence
  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering – Development Knowledge
  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering – Development Competence
  • Mechatronics Maintenance Technician
  • Toolmaker, Tool and Die Maintenance

Upon completion, you will be a multiskilled maintenance technician working as a maintenance team member at Toyota.

Other requirements

Apprentices are responsible for their own transportation to work during the apprenticeship. Apprentices must ensure they have a reliable and suitable transport method for getting to site for the start of their shift
