Summary

Assist Conductors at the National Institute of Conductive Education by preparing materials and supporting children aged 4-11 with cerebral palsy. Help them engage fully in their Conductive Education and teaching programs, ensuring active participation and providing day-to-day assistance for successful learning experiences.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Preparing and tidying of teaching and preparation rooms.
  • Preparing resource materials.
  • Assisting children with dressing/undressing.
  • Toileting children.
  • Assisting children with feeding.
  • Assisting children with personal care (e.g. washing hands and face).
  • Displaying children’s work.
  • Assisting the professional staff (conductors), and children, during programmes of study as relevant.
  • Supervising children during CE programmes to ensure safety
  • Helping children when arriving and leaving school.
  • Accompanying staff/children on school trips.
  • Undertaking any other duties that may reasonably be required.

Course contents
  • Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.
  • Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context.
  • Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
  • Adapt resources to support all learners.
  • Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
  • Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
  • Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

    NICE, Centre for Movement Disorders is a charity that provides services for children's and adults with movement disorders. As part of that service we have an independent school for children. This school caters for children with physical disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy.
