Summary

Tender Care Services LTD are looking for an Apprentice Care Assistant (Domiciliary). You will be studying toward your level 2 apprenticeship. No experience required. 18+ only (due to the nature of the role).

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Purpose of Position

To share with other staff in meeting the personal care needs of clients in a way that maintains and respects their dignity and promotes their independence.  Care provided by care assistants is expected to include care that would reasonably be given by members of the client’s family.  Our care does not include tasks expected to be undertaken by a trained nurse. 

Principal Responsibilities

  • To assist our clients who need help with getting up in the morning, dressing, undressing, washing, showering, bathing, oral hygiene and the toilet.
  • To help clients with mobility problems and other physical disabilities, including incontinence and help in use and care of aids and personal equipment.
  • To care for clients who are temporarily sick and needing.
  • To help care for clients who are dying.
  • To help in the promotion of mental and physical activity of clients through talking to them.
  • To make and change beds; tidy rooms; do light cleaning and empty and clean commodes.
  • To set tables and trays; serve meals; feed clients who need help; prepare light meals and wash up; tidy and clear the dining room.
  • To read and write reports and take part in staff and client meetings and in training activities as directed.
  • If required to assist or administer prescribed medication and creams.
  • To perform such other duties as may reasonably be required.
  • To comply with the agency’s guidelines and policies at all times.
  • To report to the agency manager any significant changes in the health or circumstances of a client.
  • To encourage our clients to remain as independent as possible.

Course contents
  •  Support individuals they are working with according to their personal care/support plan
  • Ask for help from an appropriate person when not confident or skilled in any aspect of their role
  • Provide individuals with information to enable them to have a choice about the way they are supported
  • Encourage individuals to participate in the way their care and support is delivered
  • Ensure the individual knows what they are agreeing to regarding the way in which they are supported
  • Contribute to the on-going development of care/support plans for the individual they support

  • Identify and take steps to reduce environmental barriers to communication
  • Demonstrate they can check for understanding

  • Recognise potential signs of different forms of abuse

    Other requirements

    Working hours Please note that anyone under the age of 18 can only work a maximum of 40 hours per week. Any role which exceeds these hours should be amended accordingly, to fall in line with the legislation.
