Summary

Looking for an enthusiastic cook to join our team, working in the kitchen of a small residential home. This is a role for a production chef cooking fresh food from scratch. You will be preparing breakfast, lunch and teas for our residents taking care of their individual nutritional needs.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

A great way into chefing, this job will give you the experience you need to work in the catering industry, and your skills will be in high demand for the foreseeable future. 

General duties include but not limited to:

  • Menu planning
  • Shopping for supplies
  • Preparing and cooking, breakfast, lunch, tea’s and desserts for residents according to nutritional needs
  • Preparing fresh food from scratch 
  • Learning to produce food under a deadline
  • You will gain proper experience in your trade working under your line manager
  • Food prep using fresh produce  
  • Learning new creative techniques and developing your skills  
  • Working in a fast-paced kitchen  
  • Learning organisational skills and good time management  
  • Learning how to create new dishes

Course contents
  • Check, prepare, assemble, cook, regenerate, hold and present food meeting the needs of the customers and maintaining organisational standards and procedures.
  • Use kitchen tools and equipment correctly to produce consistently high quality dishes according to specifications.
  • Take responsibility for the cleanliness, organisation and smooth running of the work area.
  • Produce dishes to suit individuals’ specific dietary, religious and allergenic  needs as required.
  • Operate within all regulations, legislation and procedural requirements.
  • Complete and maintain documentation to meet current legislative guidelines.
  • Use effective methods of communication with all colleagues, managers and customers to promote a positive image of yourself and the organisation.
  • Work in a fair and empathetic manner to support team members while offering a quality provision.
  • Work to ensure customer expectations are met.
  • Work collaboratively to uphold the vision, values and objectives of the organisation.
  • Use technology appropriately.
  • Maintain quality and consistency in food production by using resources in line with organisations’ financial constraints, style, specifications and ethos.
  • Identify own learning style, personal development needs and opportunities and take action to meet those needs.

    Training will be at Doncaster College where you will access a wide range of facilities on offer. 

    Day release   

    You will undertake Production Chef Level 2 standard.

    You will undertake Functional Skills for English and/or maths if needed.   

    You will undertake both on and off the job training by a team of industry qualified professionals to give you the best skills, knowledge, and experience.

    About this company

    Based in Conisbrough, our care home is situated in the gorgeous South Yorkshire countryside, within view of Conisbrough Castle. Dale Residential Care home is a small family run business which has been caring for the elderly for over 20 years. The home is run by Alice Kearns who for 20 years worked for the NHS as a fully qualified registered nurse. In total, the home can occupy fourteen residents who are cared for 24/7 by fully trained members of staff. Dale Residential Care home is situated in its own spectacular web kept grounds close to the heart of Conisbrough town centre overlooking the medieval castle. We pride ourselves in maintaining very high standards and we believe that our personal care to all residents is second to none.
