Summary

Working as the Plumbing/Construction Technician, this job role has good variety working across the Construction department (Brickwork, Carpentry & Joinery & Plumbing). This role is based at Boston and you will undertake a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Plumbing & Gas.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

To support high quality teaching, learning and assessment in the workshop and a positive experience for the learner
To assist and support the departmental technicians (Brickwork, Carpentry, Plumbing) with all relevant tasks
Maintaining acceptable standards of achievement, behaviour, discipline and punctuality
To prepare the workshop environment for practical delivery lessons
To demonstrate the relevant competencies for the apprenticeship and build a suitable portfolio of evidence
To reclaim materials where possible and restock or prepare for scrap disposal as necessary
To monitor stock levels of materials and tools etc. and report to the relevant departmental technician
To periodically check tools and repair and/or report as necessary
To carry out basic maintenance and development of work areas.
To check and unload incoming materials, prepare and place in store, deal with documentation as appropriate. Occasional collection of goods may be required for which a college vehicle will be provided
To maintain a clear, clean and safe environment in line with College health & safety processes
To support lecturers with the required practical elements of delivery

Identify and document hazards for the plumbing and domestic heating systems work. Apply control measures.

Carry out commission and handover procedures and techniques on plumbing and domestic heating systems (cold water, hot water, central heating, sanitary appliances, and rainwater).

Install, test, and commission, electrical and electrical control systems applicable to plumbing and domestic heating systems.

Perform routine service, maintenance, fault diagnosis and rectification procedures and techniques on the non-electrical components of plumbing and domestic heating systems.

Perform routine service, maintenance, fault diagnosis and rectification procedures and techniques on electrical and electrical control systems applicable to plumbing and domestic heating systems including industry safe isolation procedures.
