Summary

An exciting opportunity to join a warm and friendly primary schools and train as a Teaching Assistant. You will be supporting the class teacher to deliver high quality lessons and provide interventions to small groups of children.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Working as part of this important team you will be required to carry out the following duties (the nature of the Academy year requires some tasks to be done regularly whilst others annually):

  • Deliver planned activities for individuals and groups to allocated pupils, in small groups or individually, differentiating and adapting learning programmes to suit individual need (under the professional direction and supervision of a qualified teacher)
  • Plan and evaluate specialist learning activities, prepare reports and records for the teacher
  • Promote outstanding pupil behaviour for learning and support social and emotional well-being, reporting any problems to the teacher and/or child
  • Protection Lead (as appropriate and in line with school policies
  • Promote and support the role of parent/carers in pupils’ learning and enabling constructive information sharing about progress and achievement

Course contents
  • Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.
  • Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context.
  • Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
  • Adapt resources to support all learners.
  • Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
  • Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
  • Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.
  • Your training plan

    • You will work towards the completion of a Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship level 3
    • Functional Skills in English and maths if required
    • Training will be delivered face to face, online and through webinars. The school will provide in house training

    GCSE or equivalent in:

    • English and Maths (grade Grade C/ 4, or above)

    About this company

    Castleward Spencer Academy, is a brand-new school that is part of the Spencer Academies Trust. It opened in September 2021 and currently has one early years class of both Nursery and Reception aged children. It will grow year on year until we reach our capacity of 270 pupils plus a 39 FTE place nursery. This is a unique opportunity to work with us to create an amazing learning experience for our pupils’. You will initially be working with our outstanding EYFS team in the Foundation Stage Unit.
