Summary
Public Health is looking for a Practitioner to join the team, who will be supported to complete a master’s degree level Health and Care Intelligence apprenticeship. You will use complex information systems and data sets, processing data to improve health with a focus on place-based intelligence, population health, and health care planning.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
You'll work closely with Public Health Consultants, Senior Public Health Practitioners, members of the wider Public Health Team and colleagues across the County Council. More broadly, you'll collaborate with local health system partners including NHS Herefordshire & Worcestershire, local NHS Trusts, District Councils, West Mercia Police, academic partners, Voluntary & Community Sector organisations, and communities. Your work will advocate & improve health & care intelligence; you'll practically apply your learning from the Health & Care Intelligence Specialist apprenticeship within your Practitioner role.
You'll undertake the Level 7 Health & Care Intelligence Specialist delivered by JGA Group, over a three-year period, starting in January 2025. You will join a cohort of eight Level 7 apprentices supported by OHID Midlands and NHSE WT+E Midlands. You'll be supported with work-based projects across the Worcestershire Public Health team, a workplace manager & mentor to achieve the knowledge, skills and behaviours being assessed.
This role provides on-the-job training for junior analysts, practitioners or commissioners who would like to progress their career into more senior posts. You'll be committed to learn new skills through the Level 7 apprenticeship, have the ability to complete intensive, modular learning and be practically minded, translating that learning to opportunities in the workplace. You'll have excellent numerical, data & analytical skills, with attention to detail and an interest in public health, health improvement, health and care planning or commissioning. This post requires a good understanding of information governance and maintaining confidentiality in an analytical service.
It's essential the post holder has the following experience:
- Significant experience in a Public Health/Health Improvement role
- Substantial experience of managing projects to a successful outcome
- Substantial experience of working in a multi-agency environment with considerable experience of developing relationships with all local partners including communities & individuals
- Substantial experience of working in a highly visible role, communicating with a range of audiences
- Significant experience of implementing strategy & policy in at least one key public health area
- Significant experience and understanding of health inequalities.
- Significant experience of working with & successfully engaging hard-to-reach groups and communities
- Significant experience of working with health or/& social care practitioners
It's essential the post holder has the following knowledge:
- Expert current knowledge of key policies relating to Public Health
- Ability to work flexibly in a rapidly changing policy environment
- Excellent verbal & written communication skills
- Excellent Interpersonal & facilitation skills including presentation skills
- Detailed Record keeping & report writing skills
- Able to use Microsoft office applications at an advanced level
- Able to influence & engage those to whom there is no direct line of accountability, being able to motivate others & manage change
- Able to identify & engage in key partnerships to produce health gain
- Able to prioritise work, manage time & work under pressure to deliver to deadlines
- Able to understand complex information & situations in order to inform strategy development & implementation

- This role will be based at County Hall, Worcester, with training being completed remotely. This will make up 40% of the 35 hours the Practitioner will work a week.

GCSE in:

- Public Health (Or Equivalent Experience) (grade Pass)
Desirable qualifications
Other in:

- UKPHR Practitioner registration (grade Obtained or working towards)
