As part of our continued growth, we have an exciting opportunity for a new Apprentice Warehouse Operative. Working within our warehouse team you will ensure orders are picked and packed accurately, load and unload vehicles, and move materials around the warehouse in a safe and efficient manner.

Annual wage: £15,000 a year

Hours: Monday - Friday, 9.00am - 7.00pm, with 60 minutes lunch.
45 hours a week
Possible start date: Friday 1 November

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

As part of our continued growth, we have an exciting opportunity for a new Apprentice Warehouse Operative.

Working within our warehouse team you will ensure orders are picked and packed accurately, load and unload vehicles, and move materials around the warehouse in a safe and efficient manner.

Alongside internal training, you will take the Supply Chain Warehouse Operative apprenticeship programme that will support you in gaining the essential skills and knowledge to perform to high level and support your career development.

Subject to funding FLT training will be arranged.

Reporting directly to the warehouse manager the key responsibilities will include:

Picking and packing customer orders accurately, efficiently, safely and in a timely manner
Locating and moving materials around the warehouse efficiently and safely, ensuring no damage to property or persons
Using electronic handsets and computerised workstations
Unloading vehicles in a safe manner
Loading vehicles with orders in the most safe and efficient way, complying with vehicle regulations and the planned delivery route
Processing of materials via saws - full training will be given
Work in a safe manner, always adhering to the Company Health & Safety policy and safe Working practices
Undertake all tasks with a “Customer Service”, “Can do” attitude and contribute to improving the performance of the business
Undertake general warehouse “housekeeping” duties - keeping warehouse clean and tidy, ensuring stock is accessible

Decant, pack products in line with organisational procedures.

Communicate with others verbally, for example internal and external customers, colleagues, and managers.

Communicate in writing with others, for example internal and external customers, colleagues and managers.

Load and unload products, considering the product that is to be moved and its current and planned destination.

Use tools and equipment to aid in product handling.

Use information technology and digital systems. Comply with GDPR and cyber security.

Locate and use operational information, electronic or paper based, required to fulfil contractual requirements.

Select, prepare, and use packaging materials that reduce waste and mitigate environmental impacts.

support under instruction scheduled and unscheduled stock taking activities relevant to the organisation and product.

Identify and escalate problems beyond own responsibility.

Follow procedures in line with environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and guidance. Segregate resources for reuse, recycling and disposal.

Follow equity, diversity and inclusion rules.

Carry out and record learning and development activities.

Conducts handover activities.

Your training plan

On the job training delivered by the employer
Apprentices without Level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the end point assessment. For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement, the apprenticeships English and mathematics minimum requirement is Entry Level 3
Allocation of an apprenticeship delivery coach who will carry out regular training
Assessment and support visits to ensure you acquire new learning, knowledge skills and behaviours in order to progress and develop
Identify, track and support 6 hours off the job training activities
Quarterly formal progress review meetings, identifying learning achievements and next steps

GCSE in:

Maths and English (grade A*-C/ 4-9)

Other requirements

There will be a requirement for lifting / moving heavy objects so a good degree of fitness is beneficial. Due to working hours an ideal candidate will need to be at least 18 years old.
