Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

As part of our team, you’ll be the first point of contact for general enquiries, providing helpful and efficient service that leaves a lasting positive impression. But that’s not all - you’ll also play a crucial role in safeguarding patient confidentiality, a responsibility we take very seriously.

Main Duties/Key Tasks at Newport Pagnell Medical Centre: 

  • Greet patients, doctors and visitors at Reception in a polite and friendly manner
  • Answer the telephone promptly and courteously
  • Make appointments using the computerised appointment system
  • Administer the procedure for repeat prescriptions
  • Open and sort all Medical Centre post, both internal and external
  • Deal with general enquiries from patients and visitors in a helpful and efficient manner
  • Support colleagues to maintain an efficient and friendly team atmosphere

  • Use a range of questioning skills, including listening and responding in a way that builds rapport, determines customer needs and expectations and achieves positive engagement and delivery.
  • Depending on your job role and work environment: Use appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication skills, along with summarising language during face-to-face communications; and/or
  • Depending on your job role and work environment: Use appropriate communication skills, along with reinforcement techniques (to confirm understanding) during non-facing customer interactions.
  • Depending on your job role and work environment: Use an appropriate ‘tone of voice’ in all communications, including written and digital, that reflect the organisation’s brand.
  • Provide clear explanations and offer options in order to help customers make choices that are mutually beneficial to both the customer and your organisation.
  • Be able to organise yourself, prioritise your own workload/activity and work to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrate patience and calmness.
  • Show you understand the customer’s point of view.
  • Use appropriate sign-posting or resolution to meet your customers needs and manage expectations.

    You'll be studying at one day a week at Milton Keynes College for the Customer Service Apprenticeship.

    Throughout your apprenticeship you'll get:

    Essential qualifications

    GCSE or equivalent in:

    • Maths & English (grade 4)

    About this company

    Newport Pagnell Medical Centre is a large GP training practice committed to providing excellent primary healthcare services. We have a strong emphasis on staff training and development. Based in excellent premises, our committed teams deliver a wide range of general medical services. We have two locations, one in Queens Avenue, Newport Pagnell and the other in Beaufort Drive, Willen. Our teams work across both sites.
