Summary
You will be responsible for providing efficient and effective support to the Site Team at David Nieper Academy including ensuring that the cleaning, security and general appearance of the buildings and surrounding areas (including some grounds work/maintenance) are maintained in accordance with the required standards set by the academy.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
Your responsibilities include:
- Working with the site team to ensure the site is safe and secure e.g., locking/unlocking doors and windows, using tools and equipment safely, and adhering to health and safety regulations
- Assist with maintaining security of the premises
- Assist with fire evacuation procedures
- Ensure the site is clean and tidy e.g., clear spillages, clear debris from gutters
- Assist with maintenance of minor issues e.g., basic plumbing, light replacements, snow clearing, touch-up paint work
- Upkeep on general grounds maintenance e.g., mowing grass, hedge cutting etc.
- Assist with moving and handling e.g., setting up furniture

Your training will be provided by both your Employer and Grey Seal Academy.
All training is delivered face to face at the workplace either on site or videoconferencing; this includes x1 training session and x1 coaching session per month.
You will have access to an online portfolio and virtual learning environment to assist your training and assessment during your programme.
During the Apprenticeship you will learn the following topics:
- Support the delivery of the responsibilities of the Facilities
- Services function in complying with health and safety and other legislation and organisational policies and procedures
- Address FM-related risks, hazards and threats to people, property and premises
- Provide customer service to internal and external customers to ensure the effective delivery of a range of facilities services
- Support good sustainable practice in FM
- Maintain soft FM services
- Gather FM-related information for continuous improvement purposes
- Deliver front-of-house services
- Support hard FM functions
- Maintain and develop competence in the FM industry/sector
- Support the delivery of FM projects
Upon completion of the apprenticeship, you will gain the following qualifications and Standard:
- Facilities Services Operative Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard
- Level 2 Certificate in Facilities Services Principles
- Functional Skills in mathematics Level 1/2 (if applicable)
- Functional Skills in English Level 1/2 (if applicable)

The David Nieper Academy is an academy in the town of Alfreton, Derbyshire. A brand-new school building was opened in early 2017. A key aspect of their vision is their focus on applied learning within all subject areas and across year groups. They have seen an increase in student numbers within each year group and are looking to build on this year on year.
