Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

As an Apprentice Production Chef at Moira Sports and Social Club, you’ll be an essential part of a dedicated kitchen team. This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a professional kitchen while working towards a Level 2 Production Chef Apprenticeship. You will work with established recipes, assist in meal preparation, and ensure high standards of food hygiene are met.

Your role will include:

  • Food Preparation & Cooking: Assist in preparing, assembling, and cooking dishes following standardised recipes and menus.
  • Kitchen Hygiene: Maintain high standards of personal and kitchen hygiene, ensuring food safety compliance at all times.
  • Portion Control & Budgeting: Work within portion control guidelines, and help manage food costs to minimise waste.
  • Special Dietary Needs: Learn how to adapt recipes to cater to dietary, religious, and allergenic requirements.
  • Team Support: Communicate and collaborate effectively with your team to ensure smooth operations in the kitchen.
  • Sustainability & Efficiency: Contribute to the club’s sustainability efforts by using kitchen resources efficiently and reducing waste.

This role will help you develop essential skills in food production, kitchen operations, and customer service while offering you the opportunity to use specialist kitchen equipment in a professional environment.

Course contents
  • Check, prepare, assemble, cook, regenerate, hold and present food meeting the needs of the customers and maintaining organisational standards and procedures.
  • Use kitchen tools and equipment correctly to produce consistently high quality dishes according to specifications.
  • Take responsibility for the cleanliness, organisation and smooth running of the work area.
  • Produce dishes to suit individuals’ specific dietary, religious and allergenic  needs as required.
  • Operate within all regulations, legislation and procedural requirements.
  • Complete and maintain documentation to meet current legislative guidelines.
  • Use effective methods of communication with all colleagues, managers and customers to promote a positive image of yourself and the organisation.
  • Work in a fair and empathetic manner to support team members while offering a quality provision.
  • Work to ensure customer expectations are met.
  • Work collaboratively to uphold the vision, values and objectives of the organisation.
  • Use technology appropriately.
  • Maintain quality and consistency in food production by using resources in line with organisations’ financial constraints, style, specifications and ethos.
  • Identify own learning style, personal development needs and opportunities and take action to meet those needs.

    • Level 1/2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)

    This apprenticeship is delivered through a combination of Work Based Assessment and day/block release.  The programme will culminate in an End Point Assessment, where all the skills and knowledge gained on the apprenticeship will be formally tested.

    After this apprenticeship

    Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, there may be the potential for a permanent role at Moira Sports and Social Club. As a qualified Production Chef, you may choose to continue advancing your career within the hospitality industry, possibly moving into senior kitchen roles or exploring further culinary qualifications.
