Summary

Working as part of a busy accounts function you will be mainly responsible for the processing of purchase invoices, maintaining the integrity of the purchase ledger and ensuring compliance with VAT and Construction Industry Standards. A key part of the role will also be to communicate with both internal and external stakeholders

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Your main duties will include, but will not be limited to:
• Responsibility for the day-to-day processing of purchase invoices, ensuring they are checked, prices are correct, and any discrepancies are investigated and dealt with appropriately
• Ensure that invoices are authorised for payment by relevant Managers and matched to purchase orders
• Ensure that invoices are entered onto the accounting system accurately, using the appropriate nominal codes and narratives
• Deal with all enquiries related to invoices/payments, answering telephone calls and emails, and liaising with relevant teams as necessary to ensure enquiries are dealt with in a professional and timely manner
• Create new supplier accounts and amend existing accounts as required
• Reconcile supplier statements each month
• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and legislation, including VAT and Construction Industry Standards
• Manage all credit card and expense claims, liaising with individuals or organisations as appropriate
• Day-to-day completion of various ad hoc and administrative duties

Course contents
  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
  • Your training plan

    You will work with expert assessors to develop new knowledge, skills and behaviours within the profession.

    You will experience a blended learning model.

    This programme is delivered via a day release delivery model which means that one day per week, your attendance is required at our Derby Road, NG18 5BH campus. This attendance is required during term time only.
