Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

During your time as a Teaching Assistant Apprentice you will be part of a team delivering highly effective teaching and learning to ensure that pupils achieve the excellent academic results of which they are capable. You will be a role-model both in the Academy and for the community, having impact in school and beyond. Your day to day duties will include:

  • To assist and support with planning, resourcing, and delivering interventions to the highest standard to ensure that pupils make accelerated progress
  • To help to provide a nurturing classroom and school environment that helps pupils to develop as learners
  • To support the personal development of pupils within the Academy
  • To contribute to the effective working of the Academy by supporting staff and pupils
  • To support during breakfast club, at lunchtimes and with after-school clubs
  • To be open to feedback and be self-reflective
  • Observe, record and feedback information of pupil performance
  • Work with teachers to assess the needs of individual pupils
  • Plan and facilitate small group teaching
  • Plan and undertake direction for one-to-one teaching and intervention
  • Support the Academy’s values and ethos by contributing to the development and implementation of policies, practices and procedures
  • Help create a strong Academy community, characterised by consistent, orderly behaviour and caring, respectful relationships

Course contents
  • Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.
  • Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context.
  • Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
  • Adapt resources to support all learners.
  • Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
  • Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
  • Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

    Apprenticeship Details - 16 months expected duration to complete, working towards your Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification. (All learning is delivered online/ remote).
