Summary

We are looking for someone who already holds AAT level 3 – ideally part way through level 4 AAT also. You will have relevant work experience preferably in an accounting practice. You will be providing a range of accountancy services to our clients and will gain the experience and knowledge to study ACA through the apprenticeship route.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

As an apprentice accountant you will work as part of a team assisting with clients’ accounting needs.

This position involves a number of different aspects including:

  • Preparing financial statements for limited companies, partnerships and sole traders
  • Preparing tax computations
  • Providing bookkeeping services
  • Preparation of VAT returns
  • Filing Companies House and H M Revenue & Customs documents on client's behalf
  • Audit

During your training you will be expected to develop an understanding of the practical issues involved in delivering a high quality service to clients.

  • Communicate in a clear, articulate and appropriate manner.  Adapt communications to suit different  situations, individuals or teams.
  • Identify ethical dilemmas, understand the implications and behave appropriately. Understand their legal responsibilities, both within the letter and the spirit of the law, as well as be aware of the procedures for reporting concerns over potentially unethical activities.
  • Take ownership of allocated projects and effectively manage their own time and the time of others.  Demonstrate good project management skills to deliver high quality work within the appropriate timeline. Act as a role model and motivate others to deliver results.
  • Evaluate information quickly and draw accurate conclusions. Assess a problem from multiple angles  to ensure all relevant issues are considered. Gather the appropriate facts and evidence in order to make decisions effectively.
  • Your training plan

    You will undertake the “Accountancy Professional” Apprenticeship (a Level 7 Apprenticeship in Accounting), with full support from Accountancy Learning as part of their Flexible Apprenticeship Programme.

    Both practical and theoretical training will be undertaken, with an aim of gaining a Level 7 ACA qualification.

    The Accountancy Learning team includes a number of Chartered Accountants, active in the SW District Society, and we wanted to make the ACA qualification more accessible to those living and working in the South West.

    All tutors are ACA qualified with extensive experience in teaching level 7 professional qualifications. Our smaller class sizes mean that even when delivered remotely, on Teams, students are able to receive personal attention. We offer a mix of taught sessions and revision sessions in person and distance learning via our virtual learning environment.

    As you learn more in both the office and in your studies your responsibilities, and the variety of tasks you undertake, are expected to increase.

     

    Requirements

    Essential qualifications

    GCSE or equivalent in:

    • A minimum of 5 subjects including English & Maths (grade 9-5 / A*-C)
    • 2 subjects (grade A - C)
    • A relevant accounting qualification (grade Pass)

    Let the company know about other relevant qualifications and industry experience you have. They can adjust the apprenticeship to reflect what you already know.

    Other requirements

    This is not a remote position, but if preferred can be based out of the office in Yelverton is Saltash is not easily accessible. Prior experience of working in an accountants practice will be necessary therefore applicants will only be considered if they have relevant accounting work experience.
