27 month, L2 & L3 Apprentice in Finance, working for a leading NE College which is a £50m+ organisation with nearly 1000 employees. Day release provided to study AAT, working in a busy Finance Department providing experience in AP, AR, Cashbook/Treasury, and Management Accounts.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

The working experiences will typically mirror and compliment the successful candidates study program through AAT.

Within the first year, studying for AAT - L2 the apprentices will actively be involved in supporting the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions. They will deal directly with suppliers and customers by various communication methods (email, phone calls, MS Teams calls etc) resolving Queries and ensuring accuracy and timeliness of document input.

Within the second year, studying AAT – L3, they will progress to supporting the management accounts function in month-end closure and accounts reporting preparation, investigation work and reconciliation and control work.

Assist with the delivery of financial information to internal stakeholders ie cost centre and business managers.

Use digital systems including financial software applications to provide accurate and timely reports.

Course contents
  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

    Candidates must have L2 English and Maths to be considered. They will achieve a L2 in the first year and L3 in the second year.

    This is an Accounting Diploma via Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) and L3 Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship. (AAT)

    As both an employer and also a leading NE training provider, AAT training will be day release at the main training campus (Bede – Sunderland) which is also the main employment site for the Finance department.
