Summary

A fantastic opportunity at Sensesation Day Services has been made available to join their team as an Apprentice Day Care Support Worker. Duties will include supporting individuals within the day service and accessing the wider community, maintain and promote safety & support people with their activities of daily living.

£13,312 a year

£9.00 per hour (gross) after successful completion of a 12-week probation period £9.50 per hour (gross) after completing 24 weeks of your apprenticeship program £10 per hour (gross) after completing 36 weeks of your apprenticeship program

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • To support individuals within the day service and accessing the wider community
  • To support people with their activities of daily living
  • To support people with their Health and Social Care needs,
  • To support individual to have the best day possible and create a fun, caring environment
  • To maintain and promote safety
  • Be responsive to the needs of service 
  • To provide the people we support with autonomy, maintaining dignity and upholding human rights 
  • Upholding and promoting professional standards
  • Support with providing personal care, nutrition and medication
  • Providing the people we support with a range of activities
  • Providing emotional support to people we support and families/ relatives
  • Completing daily records including care notes and MAR charts under supervision. 
  • Reporting any concerns to management
  • Demonstrating openness and honesty at all times.
  • Promoting independence.
  • To be able to work both independently under supervision and as part of a team
  • Supporting colleagues

Course contents
  •  Support individuals they are working with according to their personal care/support plan
  • Ask for help from an appropriate person when not confident or skilled in any aspect of their role
  • Provide individuals with information to enable them to have a choice about the way they are supported
  • Encourage individuals to participate in the way their care and support is delivered
  • Ensure the individual knows what they are agreeing to regarding the way in which they are supported
  • Contribute to the on-going development of care/support plans for the individual they support
  • Support individuals with cognitive, physical or sensory impairments
  • Ensure dignity is at the centre of all work with the individuals they support, their families, carers and advocates
  • Demonstrate all work is person centred, accommodating the individual’s needs, wishes and preferences
  • Demonstrate empathy (understanding and compassion) for individuals they support
  • Demonstrate courage in supporting people in ways that may challenge their personal/cultural beliefs
  • Speak clearly and exhibit positive non-verbal communication to individuals, families, carers and advocates
  • Use the preferred methods of communication of the individual they support according to their language, culture, sensory needs and their wishes
  • Identify and take steps to reduce environmental barriers to communication
  • Demonstrate they can check for understanding

  • Use risk assessments to support individuals safely
  • Recognise symptoms of cognitive impairment, e.g. Dementia, learning disabilities and mental health

  • Demonstrate the development of their own skills and knowledge, including core skills in writing, numbers and information technology
  • Demonstrate their contribution to their development plan

    • The course will require day release at Sheffield College (City Campus) with a duration of 12 months

    GCSE in:

    • Maths (grade A*-D or 9-3)

    Welcome to Sensesation day service. We are based at Thorncliffe business park and we support people with a physical and learning disabilities. Sensesation was formed out of people approaching us at our other service Blossom View wanting a day service that they could trust to meet their needs and their family’s needs.
