Summary

Do you enjoy working with children, contributing to their academic, physical and social well-being? Support for students in accessing learning activities across the curriculum including Learning Outside the Classroom, as directed by Teacher/Senior Staff. This role is a flowing role supporting children’s development within all areas of learning.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Support and encourage students to engage in learning activities, and promote positive relationships between all in the school community
  •  Understand the specific needs of learners and use strategies to support all learners to achieve their learning goals.
  • Support or lead enrichment activities for example visits, out of school activities and in school clubs.
  • Be aware of, and support difference, and ensure all students have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop
  • Be an effective model of the expected behaviour of students, communicated through the use of trauma informed and trauma sensitive strategies.
  • Contribute to the overall ethos and aims of the organisation and promote diversity, inclusion, equality and acceptance of all learners in line with school policies, including by challenging stereotyped views, bullying or harassment.

  • Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.
  • Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context.
  • Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
  • Adapt resources to support all learners.
  • Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
  • Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
  • Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

    • Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification

    Over the course of your qualification, you will work towards achieving the Behaviours, Skills, and Knowledge of the course. Training will be provided with Skills Group where you will be allocated a highly skilled assessor and attend training sessions. You will have regular visits at the workplace from your designated assessor to observe your progress and competence as well as regular reviews to ensure that you are getting the most out of your apprenticeship.

    You will have regular visits from your assessor, who will monitor your progress during your apprenticeship training and conduct observations within your workplace.

    Whilst at the Skills Group and Beechwood Primary, you will learn the necessary skills and gain experience to help you throughout your role. Part of your training will be knowledge and theory based, with support sessions to help you with your project.

    GCSE or equivalent in:

    • English (grade 4+)
    • Maths (grade 4+)
    • Childcare/ Early Years (grade pass)

    In order to be successful for this position, you will need to complete an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check. This will be arranged by the employer after successfully completing the initial interview.
