    Other requirements

You will be based at the St James Centre but may need to visit all sites where ESOL is delivered. The ESOL team are long serving experienced group of diverse people who bring a wealth of knowledge to running a successful programme which supports students from a marginalised portion of the community. The team continually refine the ESOL programme to meet the needs of the ever-changing demographic of individuals they serve, and they are all extremely proud of the achievements of their students. We are often asked to support students outside of the classroom with a range of social and civic requests which means the team frequently deliver support above and beyond their work remit. Therefore, the candidate will have to be happy to work within a tenacious and driven team. The students themselves face many challenges and must be constantly pushed to maintain progress on their programmes. Therefore, it is important for our Apprentice to be comfortable helping the students do to this, which could mean repeating the same rule or expectation day in and out, developing the skill to have authority with a lovely smile. The student facing role will involve working with many students who struggle to communicate their thoughts in English and will require patience and sympathetic questioning to get to the crux of the matter so as to be supportive in dealing with the student query.
