Summary

An exciting oppotunity has arisen to join an experienced early years team who will support an apprentice to learn new skills and develop as an early years educator. We care for children from 9 months to 4 years at nursery and also have 'playdays' which is afterschool and holiday club at Buxton Infant School.

We are open Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm, actual hours worked will be on a rota basis and include time spent completing off-the-job training/attending college.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Duties will include;

Play-based activities to support children's development
Support with children's care routines
Planning activities around children's likes and interests
Being a pro-active team member using good communication skills
Using our family app to document a child day and development - training will be given

Any other duties that fit the apprentices' role and/or add to training opportunities.

Course contents

Recognise when a child or a colleague is in danger or at risk of abuse and act to protect them in line with safeguarding policy and procedure.

Apply legislation, policy and procedure to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of children in the setting (for example, food safety, diets, starting solid food, allergies, COSHH, and accidents, injuries, and emergencies).

Apply the principles of risk assessment and risk management within documentation and practice.

Teach children to develop skills to manage risk and maintain their own and others safety.

Use a range of communication methods, including technology, with other professionals to meet the individual needs of the child.

Develop and maintain effective professional, collaborative relationships with others involved in the education and care of the child.

Undertake the role and responsibilities of key person.

Recognise and apply theories of attachment to develop effective relationships with children.

Provide sensitive and respectful personal care for children from birth to 5 years.

Advocate for all children’s needs, including children which require SEND or EAL support.

Promote and facilitate children’s interpersonal communication to develop their social interactions and relationships.

Support children to develop a positive sense of their own identity and culture.

Support children to understand and respond to their emotions and make considered choices about their behaviours.

Assess the responsiveness of the environment for effective child-centred experiences in line with curriculum requirements.

Create inclusive, child-centred, dynamic, innovative, and evolving physical environments both indoors and outdoors.

Create inclusive and supportive emotional environment that enables the child to feel safe, secure, respected and experience a sense of wellbeing; maintaining and prioritising the individual child’s voice.

Apply strategies that support children’s ability to manage change, transition, and significant events.

Analyse observation evidence to assess and plan holistic individual learning based on a comprehensive understanding of the child’s needs and interests.

Facilitate and support child-centred opportunities and experiences based on the setting's curriculum and pedagogy.

Provide adult led opportunities and experience based on the setting's curriculum and pedagogy.

Use reflection to develop themselves both professionally and personally.

Your training plan

Training will be delivered by Buxton & Leek College, part of the University of Derby.

On-campus training will take place every 6 weeks, college transport is available including a campus-to-campus shuttle bus.

Apprentices will also be visited in the workplace by their college instructor-mentor, they will observe, conduct professional discussions and guide the apprentice through the apprenticeship course.

More training information

Training in the workplace will include the family app used to record the children's daily activities and progress, first aid, safeguarding, prevent, equal opportunities and behaviour management.

Please consider how you will get to work each day, taking into account the opening hours. Flexibility to work within the nursery, after-school club and holiday club. Enthusiastic about being outside in all kinds of weather as we do take children out to explore the local community.

Green Lane Nursery Ltd is an independent company that operates a large victorian building on Green Lane in Buxton. Our 60 place nursery is cosy and comfortable and arranged over three floors. It provides a welcoming, relaxes indoor space for babies and children to play and learn, and a stimulating garden that has lots of areas to explore.
