Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

Course contents
  • Health and Safety: Apply health and safety issues to all activities.
  • Sustainability: Demonstrate application of the principles of sustainability.
  • Construction Technology: Assist in the implementation of the most appropriate solutions for construction projects
  • Contracts: Be able to apply different types of contracts to different situations.
  • Procurement: Assist in the selection of and negotiation with specialist contractors for a construction project.
  • Cost control: Assist in the measurement and costing of construction works during a project.
  • Financial reporting: Assist in the preparation of financial reports, cash flow and cost forecasts for a construction project.
  • Administration: Assist in the collection, collation and storage of relevant data and its analysis.

    As a Quantity Surveying Apprentice, you will assist in managing the financial aspects of construction projects. Your duties will include estimating project costs, preparing tender documents, analysing contracts, and monitoring budgets. You'll work closely with experienced Quantity Surveyors to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. This role is ideal for someone with strong numerical skills, attention to detail, and an interest in construction. Full training is provided, so no prior experience is required. The broad purpose of this occupation is to apply layers of plaster onto walls, floors and ceilings.

    Other requirements

    Candidate must be able to travel to the workplace and college according to working hours. The current National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is currently £6.40 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 or over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training. Please note that anyone under the age of 18 will only work a maximum of 40 hours per week. Please note that if the successful applicant is found prior to the closing date, the vacancy may be withdrawn early.
