Summary

A Teaching Assistant will work under the direction and supervision of a class teacher to assist with teaching and learning and associated activities in accordance with school policies and procedures. The successful candidate will assist children in matters of personal needs and their general health including first aid and welfare matters.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Assist children in matters of personal needs and their general health including first aid and welfare matters.
  • Provide structured support in accordance with specific work programmes designed and supervised by individual teacher.
  • To contribute to raising standards by ensuring high expectations are promoted for pupils.
  • Provide general support to pupils ensuring their safety.
  • Accompanying teaching staff and pupil on visits and trips out of school.
  • Supporting the teacher by providing structured support in accordance with specific work programmes designed and supervised by individual teachers.
  • Support the teacher in the development and implantation of individual education/behaviour plans.
  • Assist the teacher with the planning of learning activities.
  • Provide detailed and regular feedback to teachers and pupils achievement, progress, and problems.
  • Supporting the curriculum.
  • Supporting the school by promoting and safeguarding the welfare of the children you are responsible for.
  • Ensuring all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.

  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.
