Summary

The Apprentice Pre-Press Digital Technician and Quality Controller is responsible for processing customer-supplied artwork to achieve the best possible print quality while ensuring that our reprographic outputs comply with our quality standards and customer requirements.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Work closely with the Client Services team to fully understand job briefs and customer requirements
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for artwork creation, artwork reprographics, and the output of printing plate TIF files
  • Produce inkjet or PDF proofs according to SOPs
  • Identify and resolve any quality issues, taking necessary actions to prevent recurrence
  • Report any workflow issues to the Digital Production Manager at the earliest opportunity
  • Ensure full and accurate completion of work tickets and company databases throughout the workflow
  • Prioritize jobs to ensure customers receive their product on time
  • Work directly with customers where required on approvals, amends, artwork, repro, and plates
  • Use quality monitoring software to monitor the quality of art and reprographic work completed by studio operators
  • Conduct pre-plating QC checks, including visual inspections, measurements, and proofing to ensure work meets specifications
  • Identify and resolve any quality issues, taking necessary actions to prevent recurrence
  • Report any issues affecting workflow to the Production Manager at the earliest opportunity
  • Complete work tickets, QC check sheets, and company databases accurately
  • Update the customer relationship management system at each point during the QC process
  • Communicate with customers when their jobs have been completed
  • Work directly with customers where required on approvals, amends, artwork, repro, and plates
