Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
What you will do in your working day
- Install, configure, and upgrade computer hardware components, and software applications
- Investigate, analyse, and resolve technical issues in a timely and efficient manner
- Work closely with other IT professionals in the team
- Install and configure computer systems, network devices, and peripherals
- Set up and customise software applications based on user needs
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues.
- Provide technical support to end-users, both remotely and in person
- Respond to help desk tickets and prioritize support requests
- Configure and maintain network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless networks
- Implement and maintain security measures to protect customer's systems and data
- Install and update antivirus software, firewalls, and other security tools
- Ensure the integrity and availability of data by creating and maintaining backup systems
- Coordinate with vendors for hardware repairs and warranty services
- Install and manage software updates, patches, and security fixes.
- Create and maintain documentation for IT procedures, troubleshooting guides, and FAQs
- Keep abreast of new technologies, trends, and best practices in the IT field
- Participate in IT projects, such as system upgrades, migrations, and implementations

- Qualification together with onsite training by the employer
- For those starting at Advanced (Level 3), the expected duration would be eighteen months. There is an opportunity to progress on to the Higher Apprenticeship (Level 4) and ultimately on to a Degree Apprenticeship

Essential qualifications
GCSE or equivalent in:
