Summary

This is an opportunity to join a small central team whose role is to support the financial activity of 8 schools across Northumberland and North Tyneside. You will be responsible for a range of routine financial tasks, including purchasing, income collection, invoice processing, budget monitoring, and financial record-keeping.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Working in the Trust finance team your duties will include:

1. Ordering goods and services.
2. Preparation and processing of invoices.
3. Processing monthly internal recharges such as reprographics and hospitality.
4. Collation, checking and passing for prompt payment of all invoices, chasing outstanding commitments when required.
5. Assist in financial arrangements for school trips and activities.
6. Assist with routine financial procedures, including checking expenditure/income against planned budgets and distribution of Budget Holder financial reports.
9. Assist with the input and upkeep of school inventory records.

Course contents
  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
  • Your training plan

    You will undertake a Level 2 Accounts Assistant Apprenticeship with our preferred provider.  Training will be in the workplace and supported by day release in Newcastle or Middlesborough.

    Essential qualifications

    GCSE or equivalent in:

    • Maths and English (grade 5 and above)

    Desirable qualifications

    A Level or equivalent in:

    • Any (grade C+)

    Other requirements

    This role is office based on a business park situated between Ponteland centre and Newcastle airport. Applicants must be able to travel to the office on a daily basis and also to the apprenticeship providers location for day release.
