Summary

This is a great opportunity for the right enthusiastic and creative person to become part of our creative and growing signage company. No experience required - we will provide training through an apprenticeship scheme. You will join the organisation as a Signage technician apprentice and learn all aspects and elements of design and installation.

£13,312 a year

You will be paid the national apprentice wage for the first 6 months. Your progress will then be reviewed with the possibility of a pay increase.

Our working hours are Monday - Friday 8.00am - 4.30pm with 30 minutes for lunch. We do provide evening and weekend services to our clients, so the candidate must be prepared to work these on occasion when required.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Through online learning and a hands-on approach you will be trained in all aspects of signage. Providing all signage services in house, you will be taught how to use a variety of printing equipment, software, manufacturing equipment such as a CNC route, as well as installation of all types of signage. Including, vinyl graphics on to rigid boards, walls, windows and vehicles, 3D letter signage, all types of illuminated signage.

We offer a range of signage services, so day to day tasks can very, but will always include a handful of the below:

  • Designing signage of all kinds
  • Digital printing and vinyl cutting
  • Print finishing (lamination and aplimask)
  • Installation of vinyl to boards, walls, windows or vehicles
  • Using manufacturing equipment such as CNC routers
  • Installation of physical signage on site to buildings
  • Working at height
  • Use of specialist power tools to manufacture and install signage

Course contents
  • Interpret information, for example customer briefs, specifications and work instructions.
  • Conduct site survey.
  • Calculate costs and prepare quotations.
  • Plan and schedule work.
  • Prepare for signage work.
  • Use graphic design software to design signage.
  • Create pre-fabrication files/instructions.
  • Select and use materials and components.
  • Assemble signs.
  • Trim, clean and add fixing features to signage such as eyelets, hinges and brackets, as required.
  • Protect materials and signs to prevent damage during manufacture, transportation and storage.
  • Apply, install or erect signs.
  • Check signage materials and products against quality requirements.
  • Identify and document risks and hazards in the workplace; advise on and apply control measures.
  • Comply with health and safety regulations and requirements.
  • Comply with organisational and statutory environmental and sustainability considerations: safe disposal of waste, recycling of materials and efficient use of resources.
  • Select, set up, complete pre-checks and operate sign-making machinery, tools and equipment.
  • Maintain work area, tools and equipment for example, charge batteries and sharpen blades.
  • Use access equipment in the installation process, for example ladders, fixed and mobile platforms.
  • Communicate with colleagues and/or stakeholders – verbal, written or electronic; use industry terminology.
  • Complete documentation for example job sheets, maintenance records.
  • Rectify or report issues.

    • The apprenticeship training is undertaken via online learning in the office and is a Level 3 Signage Technician Apprenticeship qualification

    • Functional Skills in maths and English, if required

    GCSE or equivalent in:

    • English (grade C or 4)
    • Maths (grade C or 4)

    Other requirements

    The job does entail working off ladders, scaffolding and access platforms. It is important that the candidate is not too afraid of heights. Every day is different so we could be working in doors one day and outside the next.

    • Subject to successfully completing the apprenticeship, the candidate will receive a full-time employment within our signage business
