Summary

As a Test Analyst Apprentice you will work in the IT Services Department at The University of Oxford. You will ensure the high quality of software products, and digital system solutions through establishing appropriate test environments and planning, designing and conducting structured system functionality tests and performance tests.

The University of Oxford is offering a 30 month contract, of which 24 months will be assigned to the apprenticeship. Apprentices are expected to work 5 days a week Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm with a 30 minute lunch break.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

As a Test Analyst apprentice, you will have the opportunity to: 

  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams and university stakeholders to conduct comprehensive testing and enhance software products.
  • Develop robust test plans for software enhancements and system modifications, ensuring quality assurance throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Lead the identification and resolution of defects, maintaining the integrity of software systems and user experience.
  • Define end-to-end testing for projects, contributing to project success through meticulous testing methodologies.
  • Develop your skills across technology domains by experiencing projects that are delivering solutions with software, infrastructure, data management, and security.
  • Engage in continuous professional development by participating in formal training programs and on-the-job learning initiatives. 
    Develop skills to create effective test plans for software developments and system changes.
  • With support, create test conditions based on the documented requirements and using the appropriate formal test techniques
    Assist in leading and coordinating defect identification and resolution
  • Assist in defining scope of end-to-end testing on projects of small / medium size
  • Work towards assessing and performing regression testing needs for upgrade projects
    With support, build new and maintain existing regression test packs
  • Play a crucial role in supporting and ensuring the quality and reliability of our software applications, systems, and infrastructure 
    Work closely with our experienced testing team to conduct testing and contribute to the overall improvement of our software products
  • Develop the skills to execute test cases and test scripts to verify new functionality of software applications, ensuring that they meet testing best practices and quality targets
  • Work towards identifying and documenting software defects and inconsistencies, ensuring they are reported accurately and promptly
  • Learn to perform regression testing to verify that defects have been resolved and that new code changes do not introduce new issues
  • Gain skills to prepare and maintain test data sets to ensure comprehensive test coverage and accuracy
  • With training, create and maintain detailed test documentation, including test plans, test cases, and test results, to facilitate knowledge sharing and future reference
  • Collaborate with developers, business analysts, project managers, and other team members to understand requirements and ensure the successful execution of test plans
  • Gain an awareness of the latest testing best practices, industry trends, and emerging technologies to improve testing processes and methodologies across the team
  • Gain skills to create and execute of automated test scripts using testing tools and frameworks
  • Practice initiative by extending your knowledge, expertise, and testing skills through formal training courses and on the job learning

In return for your determination, hard work, and dedication to The University of Oxford, we are delighted to be able to support you through completing your MSc Digital and Technology Solutions at Northeastern University London through a 2-year programme.

Training is delivered via blended learning, primarily online with some blocks of face-to-face learning in London.

A degree apprenticeship combines full-time paid work with us and part-time university learning whilst being involved in real-life delivery, practical learning and getting paid.

Apprentices without Level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the end-point assessment.

As well as this, you will be supported on a day-to-day basis with:

  • Opportunities to apply your learning in the workplace.
    Reasonable time out to attend university and study (during study leave)
  • Focussed objectives and goals for the duration of your apprenticeship

Essential qualifications

GCSE or equivalent in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Maths (grade 4)
  • Business, Economics or STEM subjects preferred (grade B)

  • Degree in STEM subject or equivalent (grade First-class, 2:1 or 2:2)
